I love Legal Seafood, having been to many in Boston lots and lots of times. I dined at this DC Chinatown location twice in the past week. It's a busy and bustling place, and the food is excellent -- and I thought the signature clam chowder was even better here than at the last Legal I went to in Boston.... More

As always the Crab cakes were an excellent choice. Lump crab is as always consistent with LSF. However the price is high if your considering money but its worth it. Try the 2 large Crab cakes with salad. $30+. See photos.

We have been to the one in Boston, however here everything taste super good. The restaurant is live, a perfect place to get together with friends for a delicious seafood dinner, the fish was fresh and well done. Definitely will go back.

Went to Legal Sea Food one night after a conference. Had gone to the one in Boston several years ago. The Washington DC site was just as good. Great food! Had table in front of window so we were able to watch all of the tourists walking by. Food is pricey but worth it.

We enjoyed a spectacle of seafood dishes and attentive service on Thanksgiving. This is a must-do experience in seafood dining. We walked to the Chinatown setting from our hotel on 14th Street. With a reservation, we waited about 15 minutes to be seated in a jam packed dining room, wafting in the full aroma of cooked seafood. We started our... More

First dined at legals in Boston and look for one of their restaurants whenever we are in the states. We have been to the one in Washington DC 3 times now and every time was a pleasure. They supply the clam chowder for the presidential inauguration dinner and its very, very good. This visit to washington i tore myself away from... More

A good place to have seafood in washington. Better make reservation in advance otherwise need to wait for a long time. Food is well cook. Sea food is fresh. Wine is quite expensive. Portion is too big. Waiters are friendly. Environment is nice but the tables are too close to each others.

This restaurant has seen better days. It's no wonder the chain is disolving. LOUSY food and mediocre service. Avoid at all costs. I had the flavorless Boston scrod and my husband had the greasy snapper. Even the signature new England clam chowder was weak. The bread was laughable. Save your money or just skip the meal vs eating here.

Had dinner there on a Friday night. The clam chowder and cream of crab were both good. The lobster bake was OK. The service was average, the waitress got everything for us in a reasonable and timely way, but nothing more than that, not as friendly as we expected.

Had a nice dinner but were expecting bit more based on other reviews. Waiter was attentive and friendly. We were hoping on some great seafood but this was a bit disappointing. Small portions and quite expensive but above all not great quality. Overall certainly not bad nor to be avoided, but a bit overrated in other reviews.

Description
The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. A bipartisan favorite, we have occupied the nation’s capital since 1995, anchored across from the Verizon Center and around the corner from the International Spy Museum, National Portrait Gallery and Chinatown. Make waves at our racetrack-shaped bar or sup on seafood underneath the hull-like ceiling in our restaurant’s main dining room. Either way, be presidential and order a cup of our New England Clam Chowder; it’s been served at every Inauguration since 1981. Other accolades include “Best Place for Great Seafood” (Washingtonian Magazine, 2008) and “Best Crab Cakes” (Washingtonian Magazine, 2008)
