Very atmospheric old restaurant off M St NW in picturesque Georgetown. Al Capone is supposed to have passed through and left bullet holes in his wake (pinch of salt?!). It was crowded when we dropped in for lunch shortly before New Year and with the tables tightly packed it was loud and bustling. The food is American with both seafood... More

The pub ambiance was excellent without being intrusive. The decors was great with bits and pieces of Washington history here and there. The waiter was hyper attentive, not to us but to all his tables, regardless whether the customers were locals or tourists. The place was packed but noise level was amazingly low (for a pub). Food was excellent,Maryland crab... More

J. Paul's is a lively restaurant in the heart of Georgetown. We visited for dinner and enjoyed our food and the great service.

In fact, the whole menu rules. I run around and study reviews and reviews and my wife and daughter just walk down the street and point at somewhere and say "Thats where will eat" and you walk out scratching your head, how the hell did they find that place. Well J'Pauls was one of those places. Well I can also... More

J Paul is typical pub style restaurant in the shopping district of Georgetown. Good for a casual meal with family or friends. Something for everyone on the menu. Reasonable prices and decent food.

Visited for a work Christmas Lunch. Party of 18. No difficulties with the numbers but ended up in two tables so effectively dividing the group. Not ideal. Service was very slow and the restaurant was half empty. Waiter was engaging. Food when it came was ok - nothing to write home about. Been there, seen it, no wow factor so... More

Large menu with plenty to choose from. Our waiter was terrific! I ate the loaded waffle fries and crab soup. Expensive, but enjoyable for the Georgetown experience!

It's a good place in Georgetown. The service is good and quick. However I found the dishes I tried overseasoned for my taste and very spicy though not mentioned on the menu. I tried the catfish and chips, the jerk-seasoned salad and the crab. It could be better. I liked the decoration very much.

Nothing spectacular about our recent visit, but nothing wrong with it either. Good place to stop for a quick bite. Food was good, atmosphere was fun and the prices were average.

We met with a group of friends to celebrate the holidays at the bar and we're completely overcharged. The bartender and manager were rude. J Paul's has become a tourist trap. Do not go there!

J. Paul’s is Washington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon. The J. Paul’s bar in Georgetown is itself a 100 year old mahogany shotgun bar, built by the Brunswick Balke Coolander Company and was previously housed in a grand saloon in the Chicago stockyards. Many will swear over their scotch that Al Capone himself bellied up to that very bar. Antique brass elevator doors from New York’s Waldorf Astoria frame the back dining room.

A few short blocks from the Potomac River, in the heart of fashionable Georgetown, the original J. Paul’s has become an institution. Every day, politicians, journalists, artists, business people and Washington personalities share tables with students, tourists and ex-Pats in the nation’s capital. Don't miss out on a visit to this DC institution!
