Terrific and affordable Sunday brunch German style. Wide array of delicious offerings ranging from chocolate cherry waffles to sausage platters and eggs plus steak and brie. Six of us dined, all whom of which have spent time in Germany. The sauerkraut balls were a delicious and different appetizer as was the baked brie chunks with pears and cranberry. Our portions... My wife and I stopped by here on a weekend just for lunch on a day when we planned to see the sights in Washington. We stumbled onto Cafe Berlin because I was in the mood for some good Bratwurst. I'm not sure why I thought DC would be the place to be for German food, but I'm so glad... More

Far too many restaurants today try too hard to be cool, creative and a place to be seen rather than serving straightforward meals that diners wants. The Cafe Berlin is not a pretentious place, but rather a slightly worn (shall I say comfortable) establishment serving standard German comfort good in the shadow of Capitol Hill. Frequented by locals, tourist and... More

I lived in Germany for two years and the food here was very authentic and the dunkel weisse was great. The atmosphere was great.

We have a teenage exchange student from Germany. He said the food was pretty authentic. Our family enjoyed the food and the beer was good as well. Not too overly expensive, given you are eating in DC. We walked from the Supreme Court, so not too far.

I came to Cafe Berlin and was impressed with the outside patio area as it was beautifully decorated with lights. Had it not been cold, I would have ate outside. I liked the table cloth and the flicker of the faux candle on the table, but the host sat me in a dark corner. Perhaps it was foreshadowing. Nathan was... More

Nice short walk from where we are staying for a visit to Washington DC. Started with a 4 at the end of our meal and ordered desert to go (have not tried the desert yet). The food was deserving of a 4. The reason for a 2 is because the waiter took my card, Was gone for a very lengthy... More

We enjoyed drinks and fresh pretzel appetizers on the patio. The pretzels were great and there is a nice selection of drinks. I will return for dinner - the menu looked wonderful!!

Charming place. Get a table outside if possible. Food was fresh, inventive, and tasty. It's not cheap, but then this is an expensive neighborhood. We've been three times now. Ask for the nightly specials. Seems like they don't push them very hard, but they always seem to have one or two.

Searched TA for the best German restaurants in the DC area and Cafe Berlin was at the top. Did not disappoint at all. Seated immediately and started with a Dunkel weisse beer -- superb -- and a pinot gris. Great service. And the appetizer we ordered, potato pancakes and four German salads, were among the best German favorites we've ever... More
