Wow, was the food great at El Azteca! Mexican food is my favorite, and this ranks right up there with the top. We ordered the Pollo al Chipotle and the Pork Tacos. The chicken was different than any other we've had, but the Pork Tacos were the star of the meal. Oh, the chips and salsa were pretty tasty, too!

We have eaten here several times. Its a nice place with fast courteous service. My wife likes their fish tacos and my favorite is their special burrito washed down with a margarita. They are usually busy and after you eat here, you will know why.

I have been coming to this area for years and just stumbled on this gem with my last stay. We had a diverse party of 25 (babies, seniors, handicapped, and picky eaters) and the restaurant took great care of us! They do not take reservations even for a large party so we showed up at 4:00 on a Sunday to... More

Good Mexican restaurant with a great menu. We take the family here when visiting Ames. Not a big fan of their salsa but love the cheese sauce. Clean and fun atmosphere. Would recommend if you want a sit down Mexican meal.

Owners are super friendly! We crave the Huevos Rancheros and Poncho's Lemon Lime Chicken. Everything is served super fast and hot. Best Margaritas in Ames. I like the original location on S. Dayton because that is where we first started going. My wife likes the location in north Ames because of the newness of the restaurant. We usually go to... More

Although they are friendly, the food really underwhelms! The salsa has a good kick, but the rest of the food is almost tasteless! The beef is bland, the peppers are mushy and the retried beans are watery! We ate it, but we won't be back!😝

So it appears there is two Azteca's in Ames. Don't go to the one on Dayton Avenue that looks like an old Embers from 1983. Food & service was terrible. Had to flag down my server to order, food arrived in 2 minutes. guessing the fajita's are NOT made to order, as they came out sloppy & could tell they... More

Food is excellent. I have many favorites, fajitas, arose con pollo, carnitas. Service is very good and fast. Great place for lunch or dinner.
