The reviews sounded promising but I was disappointed. The service was good and efficient. The food was nothing special. It is ok but for a restaurant of such repute and price I expected more. To top it all credit cards get a 5% surcharge and a conversion to US$. The mulligatawny was bland and no hint of lemon, coriander or... More

Just two words - Yellow Dal! Do not miss it. Made me think of my mothers cooking and I don't think I need to say anything else. The place is beautiful and the food is light. Yes, Light Indian Food!

This is by far the best Indian restaurant in Uganda with great ambiance and quality Indian food. The outdoor dining is perfect for great evenings with nice street view.

Having a soft spot for Asian cousine, I always try out numerous Indian and Chinese restaurants in cities I visit frequently. In Kampala, the Khyber Pass restaurant at the Speke Hotel offers the best Indian food in town. All the good reviews that I have read about this restaurant are true. Very good authentic Indian food. The food is delicious. So many wonderful choices. Muter Paneer, Bhindi masala, sag paneer , Soup are some of my favourites. Manager Mr. Ganesh always suggest me to try new delicious food . That was very good.

One of the restaurants at the Speke Hotel in town. Management are Indian, and they know good Indian food. As spicy as you want it. Ugandans of all backgrounds eat samosas and chapati regularly, and many like curries too. I stayed in Speke hotel, hence I used the restaurant for one of my meetings and ate afterwards a couple of times on my own there. Very delicious meals and great range of courses. The staff is also very friendly and attentive.

I was part of a large group and so tasted lots of different dishes. They all tasted very good - nice fresh spices and each dish very distinctive. We at the Khyber Pass in Kampala bring you the recipes of FRONTIER TAWA TANDOOR [CLAY POT] COOKING. These recipes are prepared by our renowned International Chefs, prepared with care for your enjoyment.

Khyber Pass is a mountain Pass in Western Asia and is the most important pass connecting Afghanistan and India. The Khyber Pass winds northwest through the Sefid Koh Rang near Peshawar. The Pass is walled by precipitous cliffs that vary in height from 150 to 300 metres. The Pass reaches it's highest elevation at the frontier between Afghanistan and Pakistan prior to its entering India.

It has witnessed the marchs of Aryans, Persians, White Huns, Selijuks, Tartars, Mongols, Sassanians, Turks, Mughals and Durranis as they made successive inroads into territories beyond the Peshawar Valley and Indus. With them came remarkable "Frontier Cuisines". This diversity of Cuisines, with the influence of the Indian Civilization they journeyed through, produced exotic dishes which seemed to spring from the very land itself.

The Aryans descended upon the fertile Northern plains in 1500 B.C., Subjugating the indigenous dravidian population and settled down to open a glorious chapter in the history of civilisation and the art of FRONTIER TAWA TANDOOR [CLAY POT] COOKING.

The Persians hordes under Darius [6 Century B. C.] Descended into the Punjab to annex yet another province to the Archaemenian Empire. Here the art of TANDOR COOKING was a way of life.

It is this Pass, through which the subcontinent was invaded time and again by conquerors like Baber, Nadir Shah and Ahmed Shah Abdali. These conquerors again brought the Mughals' cuisines with them.

The story of the Khyber Pass is composed of much colour and romance, such tragedy and glory makes Frontier Cuisine look stranger than fiction. The Khyber Pass has been a silent witness to countless different varieties of cuisines and the art of frontier cooking in the history of mankind. As one enjoys the delicacy of frontier cooking it unfolds the pages of history.
