This restaurant owned and run by Japanese We love Eel and visiting this restaurant nearly every month for more than 30 years, it was started as a very small space across the street, this is not a deluxe or high class restaurant - no frills ! Be aware that It is a place to enjoy excellent Eel, basically eat and... More

Famous for eel bento though all the dishes are good. Its crowded, you'll likely need to queue and share a table. Definitely worth the effort.

Went for lunch. Tourist trap with NYC prices. Still, great bowl of eel over rice, excellent braised fish chin. Under-cooked eel innards skewers. They don't skimp on portions though. Crowded little place. Prepare to share tables. Arrive early or wait on line and prepare to have the food you want be sold out.

This Unagi (Japanese grilled eel) restaurant had been in my pocket list for a decade, end up, we visited it in Oct 2014 firstly. At that time, there was a long queue since 6pm, so we waited for awhile. When that's our turn, large Unaju (鰻重,Japanese grilled eel rice set) were sold out, hence we could only have small Unaju... This restaurant is always packed and a long waiting line. Unexpectedly, not a long line when we came (a long line again after we got in). We ordered the famous eel rice with fried kettle fish, fried shrimp (tempura one is far better) and omelet. Somehow, the quality of eel is not that good as before. The bone did not... More

the only good thing is that it's cheap for an unagi dish and you get quite a big piece of eel for the price, but it's not of high quality. the way the eel is grilled is also not very good. the restaurant cramped.

The Unagi Don here is a MUST HAVE dish when you visit. Grilled to the right texture and with a pretty generous portion of Unagi and rice, this. Other popular dishes include the yasai Itame, grilled squid, saba. Do go earlier during the opening hours as the queue never seems to end.

We were back in Taipei and wanted to meet up with a friend for lunch. H.Y. did not disappoint. Same as always. Crowded, had a 15 minute wail in line at 11:15am. This is actually considered a short wait. Line gets much longer as you get to noon lunch time (so that's why we came so early). Restaurant was full... More

We ordered unagi bento and the fried oyster. The unagi was tasteless and there was no sauce on the rice. The rice isn't the typical sushi rice served at Japanese restaurants. It was over cooked and mushy. The fried oyster was good. The mayonnaise dipping sauce was full of flavor. This unagi restaurant used to be inexpensive and delicious. I... More

When I reached the little lane where the shop is located, you can see how popular the restaurant is. Long queue as compared to the other restaurants in the same lane (a longer queue formed while I was waiting). The wait was not horrendous though (took about 20min) as it is a fairly spacious restaurants and diners don't really stay... More
