To all tripadvisor readers, I'd highly recommend this restaurant as it is one of my favourite. It is just on the street corner right across the Samitivej hospital. Kai krob pad phed (Crispy fried chicken with sweet-spicy sauce) eat along with tom kha gai (Chicken coconut milk soup) and Pla muek khai nueng ma now (Squid steamed with lemon-spicy chilli)... More

we visited this place five times with Thai friends, first time was 7 years ago, back then the food was really really good but we went again yesterday and something was very wrong, the dishes we ordered had no taste at all except for that everything was very very hot and you mouth just got burnt. we ordered Kanom Jean... Lai Ros in Sukhumvit is the sister branch of the well-known restaurant on Rama VI Road that specializes in traditional Thai cuisine, most notably its Khao Chae (assorted fried vegetables with stuffing eaten with rice in ice water). It is also known to be good for its variety of Thai food that may not be easily found elsewhere. Our party... More

Every time I'm in Bangkok, Lai Ros will always be on my list of restaurants to visit before heading back to the UK. Nowadays, it's very hard to find good quality Thai restaurants in the middle of the city as they all turn a bit fusion here and there. This is as traditional as you will get. If you're looking... I was taken there by local friends, who however did not know the place but relied on earlier recommendation. We were all very pleased with the very good food, and friendly atmosphere. I think the address should be given as "Soi 49 Sukhumvit", as it means it's some distance off the main street. I wouldn't find the place myself w/o... More

I live in soi 49, so it is convenient for me to go eat at Lai Ros. The food tastes so good that I never tired of going there. I don't mind the out look, as long as the price is reasonable and the waitress are smiling.I have their regular for almost 30 years.

Food is great. I'd recommend Kao-Chae, Kanom Jeen Num Ngeow and Kao Mao in coconut milk for dessert. Man! They've got to fix their booth seatings, though. The slope is so screwed up that my face was about to dip into the Kao Chae bowl.

Traditional Kaow Chae (Rice in Icy Jasmine Soup with assortments) and other interesting typical Thai foods. Rare treat. Kaow Chae was created in the Royal Court around 100 years ago. You either love it or hate it. It cools you in this kind of temperature.

Neighbourhood Profile
Thong Lor & Ekamai
Known as Bangkok’s hippest neighbourhood, Thong Lor and Ekamai is where the city's well-dressed and well-heeled spend their nights sipping cocktails in hidden speakeasies and posh restaurants. Live it up in one of Thong Lor's extravagant clubs and be prepared to brush shoulders with a Thai celebrity or two. While great for a night out, the area is nothing short of interesting during the daytime, either. Expect a mix of savvy coffee shops, pop-up bars and loads of vintage stores, brought to you by hip locals with eyes for design.
