I went here five years ago and ate some of the most interesting, and hard-to-find food. I got to eat ant eggs in a soup, and several different types of sausage. The person at the time had many things to recommend and I gladly ate ALLLLLLLL of it.. This year, I went...and the things I asked for, weren't there. They... More

Our little hotel happened to be tucked inside the old city and right down the street for this gem! I had read reviews before arriving in Chiang Mai but had no idea exactly where Huey Phen was. A simple walk around the area to explore was how I discovered its location! While I didn't eat in, I ordered "take away"... More

Tried a variety of different dishes. Order the Khantoke dinner for two. Great way to get a small taste of a few thai dishes. Very cheap. The thai and lemon tea are to doe for.

Simple but delicious meal, reasonably priced as well but portion is on the smaller side. Must try Kao Soy, Pig Skin, Sticky Rice, Thai Ice Milk Tea and O-Leang.. Would def make a trip there again when we visit Chiang Mai again in the future.

We asked our hotel for a recommendation for a restaurant serving real northern Thai food. They sent us to Huey Phen. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is in an old house full of Thai antiques and artifacts. We enjoyed a popular northern Thai pork curry, which has a taste and flavor unlike any other curry you will get anywhere... The setting is simple but the food here packs a punch. Go for Khao Soy which is a northern Thailand delicacy. Its deep fried noodles in a spicy curry broth and every bite sends you to heaven. Provided you enjoy spicy food.

We asked our taxi driver to drop us somewhere for Khao Soy and we ended up at Huen Phen. We came for the Khao Soy and it didn't disappoint, I had the fish and my partner had the pork & chicken version, both were amazing. We also had some salads and drinks and all was amazing. The price was amazing... More

Delicious khao soy, glass noodle salad...Mango salad very average...ok service, small helpings and very very hot if the fan isn't on you...Btw, food gets screwed all over Thailand due to pallid western palates - ensure to tell them to make it spicy or else why eat Thai food? G

Good location. Wide variety of northern food. I think it's too salty for northern food. High cost for quality of food. Could find better restaurants with same amount of money.
