Had to come to this cafe not just because of the great location but i was my Mum's name too! Beers were 30K VND each which considering the location and the lovely setting out on the balcony was pretty good

I did not receive what was advised at the door and was still made to pay for it. The view is beautiful if you're willing to compromise on service. I cannot comment on the quality of the food as I did not stay long enough.

Good location. We managed to get a spot on the balcony. Food was decent. Staff slightly pushy. Free wifi. Mainly western menu I felt.

Not worth getting out of your way to specifically go there, but if you're in the area already and need a break, that's an option. From the street/ground, you can see whether there's space outside, on the second-floor small balcony, then it's worth at least...having a coffee, juice or water. Nice view of St. Joseph's Cathedral (catholic church) and of the hustle-bustle of the area.More

We visited Marilyns Cafe for dinner and sat on the terrace which was a full of atmosphere with the fairy lights and view of the chapel. We were able to look down on the bustling streets of Hanoi. However, the food was average and the...service matched. The spring rolls and stir fried beef with Vietnamese sauce were the only better than average food we received. The menu while it has a few Vietnamese dishes, the menu was full of westerner food, pizza, burgers etc, not living up to the traditional Vietnamese at the door.More

We were welcomed in and partook of delicious Vietnamese coffee and cake. Lovely and cool and right on the walking tour near St Joseph's Cathedral. First stop of many in Hanoi.

Rather dissatisfied with the service. Two young guys took the order but never returned except with the bill! Food was soso but the view sells it all. Noticed hanging lamp was dirty and informed the manager -- she had a good laugh ! You do...overlook the adjacent restaurant // had smokers next to us from there!More

We discovered Marilyn's because we had been next door at La Place the day before, which is right next door. You enter into a funky little boutique and go back to the typically Hanoi-an dank stairwell up to the cafe. It is an eclectic spot,...which I love, and the patio is a really great perch from which to observe Hanoi doing it's thing. The patio overlooks the square in front of St Joseph's Cathedral, which is surrounded by cafes and attracts many young locals. One side of the square had many of the little stools and a woman squatting over a pot of noodles which about a dozen people were enjoying on the little tiny stools situated on the sidewalk, talking and laughing and eating. Right below the patio, there is a noodle house, and they wash their pots and pans and dishes with a hose right there on the sidewalk. People were dancing in the square. A funeral procession pulled up in front of St Joseph's, playing traditional Vietnamese music on loudspeaker- sounded like gamelan but couldn't be sure. Hanoi is very lively and bustling and colorful and such a mash up of the old culture and the new- finding spots like this to watch it unfold are priceless.More

Nothing much to say, the service is really bad and the dishes are not worth it. I actually got a carrot slice in my carbonara since my friend had a dish with carrots. Skip it.

The reviews weren't great but to be honest we needed a sit down and the views looked great. We ordered drinks and bizarrely for Hanoi the beer arrived really cold!!! Having spent our trip trying to avoid westernised food we plumped for a banana leaf...salad with prawns and a South Vietnamese chicken with rice noodles and they were amazing both of them. The salad was fresh and the noodles were so well cooked with lots of fresh mint and coriander, it was the best lunch we had. I would mark it down as a 4 as the young boys (waiters) were hanging around the stairs playing games on their phones, a mop and bucket in their hands may be a better use of their time.More
