My best dining experience in Colombo. Tucked away from Galle road in quite a pleasant, well kept area is the Gallery Cafe. Well appointed and served by pleasant staff. Outdoor sitting area is beautiful. My God, the baked crab. Unlike anything else I've had before, a real highlight of my time in the city. Just amazing. Food is expensive by... More

Hidden behind the alleys and hard to find unless it's recommended by locals or you can just simply take a cab. Great desserts but coffee is totally off

My friend adviced me this place and I'm glad I tried it! The place has its nice menu, good food and beautiful huge tree in the center of the hall. Will recommend it to those who are traveling in Colombo!

We came here the first evening in Sri Lanka due to a friends recommendation, who had spend three months here recently. The Gallery didn't disappoint, with a romantic dimly lit courtyard and lovely atmosphere. The food was really tasty and waiter very informative on places to visit on our trip! We are ending our trip back in Colombo before we... More

This is a place that looks small but extends back quite a way. Has an extensive menu which I understand hasn't changed for some time. Service was good and you have to make a reservation as it is so popular

The thing I like best about the Paradise Road Gallery Cafe is the architecture and ambiance. It is housed in the former building of the famous and wonderful Sri Lankan architect the late Geoffrey Bawa. It is well worth visiting to see the place. It gets extremely busy which is unsurprising given its reputation. It has regular art exhibitions of... More

So relaxing, peaceful and has great cake! It is a cafe with an art gallery mixed in, literally. Great opening courtyard and very nice restaurant/cafe with friendly staff. Did I mention the cakes? The art gallery shop isn't too pricy either. Looking for somewhere to chill in Colombo, then this is it.

Dropped in for dinner, we were blown away by this hidden gem. The atmosphere just screams class, every candelabra had candles, the lighting the bar were all just spectacular. The menu was so extensive with so many different cuisines on offer, it was well above what I would have expected in a good restaurant at home. Food was great, top... More

The Paradise Road Gallery Café is a place with lovely environment I discovered lately in Colombo. It has a very nice terrase, small gallery and gallery shop when local souvernirs are available. The service is pretty good. We were impressed by the variety of food offered and quality served. The ginger-lemon grass chicken is a great choice! :) See you... More

I had read a NYT travel article that included this place in a 36-hour itinerary. I walked here from town (almost unheard of, as tuk tuk drivers hound you to get in), about 15-20 minutes from Galle Face Green - straight down Galle Road. Not far away is Barefoot, the very touristy souvenir and Sri Lankan goods store. It has... More

Description
PARADISE ROAD GALLERIES -THE GALLERY CAFE OPENED IN 1998 IN A STRUCTURE WHICH WAS THE FORMER OFFICES OF WORLD RENOWNED SRI LANKAN ARCHITECT, THE LATE GEOFFREY BAWA. BAWA PERSONALLY APPROVED FERNANDO TAKING OVER HIS BELOVED PROPERTY AND CONVERTING IT INTO A RESTAURANT AND ART GALLERY AND RESPECTED SHANTH'S DESIGN SENSE IN THE CONVERSION AND RENOVATION OF THE BUILDING TO COMPLEMENT HIS OWN. BAWA'S ONLY INPUT WAS THE LOCATION OF THE MAIN PAVILION WHERE MOST DINERS ARE SEATED. THE ART GALLERY FEATURES REGULARLY CHANGING EXHIBITIONS BY ESTABLISHED AND EMERGING LOCAL ARTISTS, FOR SALE. AS THE CAFE IS OPEN FROM 10AM THROUGH TO MIDNIGHT DAILY, VISITORS FREQUENT THE PROPERTY FOR MEALS, SITE SEEING, COFFEE, CAKE, SHOPPING AND THE COMPLIMENTARY WI-FI AVAILABLE FOR USE OF PATRONS. THE GALLERY CAFE'S MENU HAS NOT CHANGED IN YEARS AS REGULARS HAVE THEIR FAVOURITES AND FERNANDO PRIDES HIMSELF ON THE FACT THAT THEY MAY ALWAYS RETURN FOR THAT OPTION. IT IS PARTICULARLY KNOWN FOR ITS COCKTAILS AND DESSERTS AS WELL AS IT'S CONSISTENTLY 'GOOD FOOD.'
