The food here was the worst we have had in our entire time here in Turkey. Up to this point, the food we have experienced has been nothing short of fantastic. Not anymore, I had the yoghurt kebab which was basically just pieces of ground swimming in goat yoghurt atop the blandest piece of pita I have had in Turkey.... More

I ate lunch at the Galissta because this is where our tourist bus stopped for lunch in the old city. The staff were overwhelmed by the volume of people. I recommend, if you are to try this place, avoid it for lunch for this very reason. The food was average. The service was slow. The WC accommodates just one person... More

Well dressed and superficial owner enticing people into his restaurant. Atmosphere is average and the menu just the normal turkish fare. The meat was very tasty but was very poorly presented and dry, with no dips being provided with the meal. We dis get some yoghurt when we asked. You almost get what you pay for, but with so many... We had an amazing trip in Turkey and made the biggest mistake of having our last dinner in Turkey at this restaurant! The man outside is really helpful and a good salesman. We saw the decor and judged the book by its cover. We ordered for a Fanta but they brought an orange juice, and they said both are orange... More

Without putting too fine a point on it, this is one of the worst dining experiences that I've ever had. The man out the front is very smooth and friendly, and we (my wife, mother & I) felt reasonably confident as we entered that the meal would be good. It was after ordering our meals that our confidence evaporated. The... More

The restaurant was not so clean and the food tasted like it came out of a can! We were told drinks would be half price but that was only to get us in the door. Not true. We had apps and decided to go some place else for dinner.

Ignore the patter from the calling bird on the door, he is smooth, but he doesn't relfect on what you will receive once you are inside, the food was to say the least average, the mezes we had may well have been frozen served from the bag, certainly the cauliflower and broccoli were! The yoghurt and garlic liquidified on the... More

We were greeted by Suliman on the street entrance to this restaurant. He invited us to taste some mezes on the street and offered us free tea and coffee and happy hour prices for drinks. We ordered two main courses and he offered to bring small mezes which we refused but were served anyway. When the bill came we were... More

The very strong pull of the street caller lured us in with a promise of the best Tavuk Durum. Turns out, they don't have that on the menu. The waiter tried to offer something completely different. The service was some of the slowest we have ever experienced and the food was not worth the time it took or the price... More

Having lived in Turkey for about 1,5 year has made us experience many highs and lows of Turkish cuisine and hospitality. At Galissta we hit rock bottom. The waiters were uninterested in their guests, quarreling amongst each other and the food the worst we have ever been served: cold, too little and they forgot to put in the taste. The... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
