I have been to this cosy restaurant for many times during my last two trips to Istanbul. It is one of my favourite places in town. Before praising the restaurant itself, I would like to express my admiration for the owner Murat and his “right-hand”, the waiter Antonio, who really make a good team and create quite a synergy. This small restaurant was a really good find. A little "chic" but the ambiance was good and the welcoming warm. The food wasn't too bad either. Would suit those on a budget or with a little more spare cash to spend.

After a long day's journey from the UK we wanted somewhere comfortable and convenient to our hotel. Found the Hippodrome and we're glad we did. Had a good meal, quickly and freshly prepared and served by polite staff. Will probably go again.

We ate here several times during our recent visit to Istanbul. Hippodrome is located in a quiet neighborhood just below the Blue Mosque, and was just around the corner from our great hotel, the Dersaadet. We initially chose this restaurant over others on the street because it looked so comfortable, with pleasant lighting and upholstered seats, and was pretty crowded,... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
