I loved the ambience of this restaurant. The staff were very friendly. The food was very good. This place is just in front of Hagia Sofia & Blue Mosque.

Definitely, the place to go. After our first visit there, we could not help but went back twice for a good lunch. When you go inside the restaurant, it takes you back in time when eating was a comfort away from the busy, crowded place especially at Sultanahmet. Istikan Tchae is not that great though, pity.

Don't be put off by the fact that the Pudding Shop is not what it used to be, it still serves good food. In the old days, the Pudding Shop was hippie central in Sultan Ahmed. You could swap stories on where to go and how to get there, which was essential in the days before Lonely Planet came along.... More

Good to place to eat if you are around. Food is very average cant say its delicious. But the vanilla rice pudding is worth a try. Really great customer service!

We had heard of it as a "hippy haunt" so were curious to try it out. In the event (having no Turkish) we went into the kitchen and were able to point to the dishes we fancied trying. We could never have ordered them otherwise. Delicious, largely vegetarian cuisine; we left full and happy. Not too expensive, but not dirt... More

I had the Iskender kebab. Tasted quite okay. Still a bit expensive though, I found. And no extraordinary service.

I came here because of the bubbling review in my Istanbul guide (Frommer's). The place has an interesting history but the food is not so interesting, I asked for a Turkish dish with meat and got some sort of chicken stew with potatoes which was pretty bland. It was edible but not out of this world. Also the prices seemed... More

Although we sat at a table with Jordanian visitors, we also had the chance to talk to Turkish diners when we asked people around us what they were eating/what it was like (admittedly mainly through mime). we would recommend it and go there again. Luckily, our local guide was a foodie and always had good recommendations in Turkey.

I have the impression that this place is living on its reputation and catchy name. The re-heated food is average and it is catering for a mass tourist market following out of date guide books. Not many puddings are offered these days It is a very average sort of cafeteria, serving average food and with average level of service. I... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
