It all starts with the setting, so cosy and intimate, but comfortable for any type of gathering. Staff were friendly, and efficient throughout the night. Each meal we ordered was of a high standard, and you could tell that care had been taken to create...them. My husband had such a tender and tasty filet de boeuf, that he raved about it the whole night. Top it off with scrumptious desserts and you have a recipe for a great night!More

The Lonely Plant guide recommended this place so we decided to try it one lunchtime. The menu choice was very limited and for us Australians everything was expensive. The staff were helpful and served us a complimentary fishy dip with toast after we had ordered...which was nice. The food presentation was very good and it did taste nice - but value for money - no.The mains were served with a basket of bread. The fresh fruit smoothies were refreshing. Would we go back - no. Smokers were sitting right beside us on the verandah - the regulations don't seem to be enforced anywhere. 2 smoothies, one entree, one main, free bread = AU$70More

We were lucky with a waiter who spoke great English, as we don't speak more than a few words of French. Our Lonely Planet dictionary got us through 85% of the all French menu, but the waiter was able to translate the few bits we...couldn't pick up. He helped a ton and added to the experience. I haven't had food this good in years. I was so impressed! It was Australian prices, which we quickly came to expect in New Caledonia. The sauces were a highlight, as were the duck fat fries. This was easily the best meal we had in Noumea, and we also ate at Au P'tit Cafe (which was good, but Zanzibar was great). I cannot recommend enough.More

A local shop recommended Zanzibar to us. It promised something, but we were disappointed. Both the prawn salad and the beef were very disappointing. The drinks list was good and we did enjoy a quiet drink, but the food was not to our liking.

Local seafood was an absolute delight. The ambiance of Zanzibar, tucked high above the street with shutters looking back to the square is really quite lovely. We have eaten here three times, all on our last night in Noumea after sailing trips and were delighted...each time by local specialities and tastes of France in the middle of the Pacific.More

The restaurant is in the downtown core on a quiet street stated in a colonial 2 storey house. I go there regularly for the good food, good service and the wonderful atmosphere.

We went here for our last night in New Caledonia. It was lovely. The restaurant is very nicely presented and was a welcome sight at the end of a long day. As a vegetarian and non-French speaker, the menu was a bit stressful but the...staff were friendly and helpful. The chef prepared a lovely meal for me and I really enjoyed it. My partner had the duck and enjoyed it as well. Worth a visit if you're in the area.More

We first visited Zanzibar on a Monday night, climbed the stairs and found ourselves the only guests at the time. Any concerns were allayed when the first course arrived. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was attentive and we were given good recommendations...for wine and desert. We enjoyed the experience enough to return with friends for another evening and were all well pleased with our dining experience.More

"Zanzibar" is our favourite place to eat out when we go to Noumea. The atmosphere is quite nice with a restaurant divided into different rooms (+ a small balcony) and decorated in the colonial style. The menu is varied and dishes are inspired by different...types of cuisines (from local to Italian and Japanese) The dishes are refined and elaborated. The wine list is quite interesting as well. Waiters are attentive without being annoying. Prices are reasonable considering the quality. (About 10 000 CFP for 2 people) Smokers might also be interested in the fact that there is a smoking area.More

Lovely place if your looking to try something new. The food was very unusual to me, but as a true traveler and tripadvisor I crave for things that make me raise a eyebrow and take my interest. Its hard to discribe the food... Id say...it's true to the type of restruant the north african/morocan food. No need for salt and pepper or ketchup here the food is flavorsim. Atmospher is good along with the north african decor inside service was good 1cook and 1waitress did a exeptional job. Well done.More

So let me thorugh this out there first. If you read my restaurant reviews I think the lowest ranking I have given is very good. And the reason for this is that we use Tripadvisor ( ranked 7) and Lonely Planet ( recommended) so we...really take the risk out of dining while having some sensational experiences. So I recommend that with the Zanzibar you read the other reviews as they appear all pretty good. From our travel experience we have never had a Lonely planet recommended restaurant not make the mark until this one. I am going to be brief. The place itself is interesting and appears clean. The wine list is interesting and offers a number of single glass and half bottle options. The food for us was uninspiring ( seriously I am no expert) and I am not sure it was fresh ( it was a Monday). For the first time in our dining experience she who must be obeyed returned a dish. The cream in the tiramisu was sour, it was a first thats for sure. So I am putting this visit behind us, it may have been a bad night and other reviews look pretty good. Hopefully she who must be obeyed does not write a review as I think it will be stronger than this.More
