The rice is so fragrant with red dates, lotus seed and a piece of black coal is super delicious. I've never seen so many varieties of greens to wrap your barbeque with. The banchan (small plates was generous and covered our entire table), service was friendly an nice. I couldn't rave about this place more. It's a MUST. MUST. Very... More

We had dinner here a few days ago and it really didn't disappoint. The restaurant is right in front of the hotel we were staying at and on a wet night, it was a no brainer to dine there. Our set of beef and pork priced around K$26,000 for both of us - which includes all the side dishes, soup,... More

This restaurant is in front of Grand Myeongdong Hotel. The address seems wrong, it should be Myeongdong not Chungmuro. We choose the cheapest beef bbq menu, add oxtongue and korean plum wine. Total is 49000 KRW, not bad for two persons. I think their speciality is the bamboo rice. We were curious because the cookers were already working since morning...... More

This is a nice hidden gem in Myeongdong. Located behind the Sejong hotel in a not as busy part of Myeongdong. This place is unique because the rice is steamed in bamboo. The food is good, you get many great side dishes and the of course the bamboo rice. The place is small but I haven't had to wait. This... More

This restaurant is directly across from the Grand Hotel Myeongdong. We went there under the recommendation of the hotel and were not disappointed at all. They showed us how to cook the BBQ. It is not cheap we ordered beef plater BBQ for two. But it is worth the price.

I chanced upon this while walking to myeongdong for some shopping. I stayed in Sejong Hotel and it was about 1min walk away. Lunch crowd starts to trickle in after 11.45pm but the crowd seems manageable by the resto. I literally finished all the side dishes except the sugary laver(seaweed) which was too sweet for my liking. The beef, which... More

A small BBQ restaurant in the Myeongdong area. Vert friendly staff. We had chosen the assorted Korean BBQ. As it was our first time the waitress prepared the mat at the table and showed us the best way to combine with spices and veggies. (Rolled in leaves with everything on it). The Korean beer was very nice with the meat.

We were recommended this place by our hotel. We have been staying in Korea for slightly more than a week now and have tried various BBQ meat places. What I liked about Ouga is the interesting bamboo rice and the variety of greens they give to wrap your meat up in. Usually at BBQ places, they would only have lettuce... More

This restaurant is located near Myeongdong station exit 9, just across The Grand Hotel Myeongdong. From the outside, it looks like just a simple restaurant with three pressure cooker grace their storefront. And apparently this restaurant is very popular with the Japanese. So we followed a flock of Japanese tourist and had a dinner there. The food was delicious! I... More

Staying in Myeongdong / Namdaemun

Neighbourhood Profile
Myeongdong / Namdaemun
Arguably Seoul’s most famous neighbourhood and undoubtedly one of its most popular, Myeongdong takes shopping and eating to new heights, with hundreds of shops, restaurants, and cafes all stacked on top of one another. The rise in popularity of Korean cosmetics, fashion, and more has made this area a must-see for visitors who come and marvel at Myeongdong’s often frenetic pace and energy. Lotte and Shinsaegae’s massive department stores are also popular draws for both Korean and luxury products. The department stores, just like Myeongdong’s streets, are crowded around the clock. Myeongdong’s many street food carts are also immensely popular for their inexpensive and quirky offerings (French-fry-encrusted corn dogs, anyone?). The neighbourhood’s popularity, as well as its close proximity to other popular sights and neighbourhoods, makes it one of Seoul’s most popular places to stay.
