Please do not support this establishment. My wife and I made this place our first stop in Seoul after hearing about it through YouTube reviews and internet blogs. Coming from the Los Angeles Koreatown scene, we've had our fair share of decent Korean fried chicken...but were excited to check out local specialty chicken. The restaurant itself is located in a swanky part of seoul just minutes from the apgujeong train station. At first glance, the place is packed with locals, mostly a young social crowd with people having a good time drinking and socializing. It's not uncommon to find two to three or maybe even more soju bottles per table. I'll have to admit I came here just to try the chicken. Having heard that they dredge the chicken in a special batter with chopped chili peppers, I had to try it. Ok, so the food... Chicken was some of the driest I've had ever. Probably worse than reheated Kentucky fried chicken. I really wanted to like it so I kept taking more bites but found nothing juicy. Even the thigh and wings were like chicken Jerky. There was hardly any meat, the chicken pieces were small and mostly skin and bones, as if the chickens were sick and underfed. I kid you not but this was some of the saddest chicken I've had in a long time. I hate to say it but this place is just a place to drink beer, soju, and much on fried pub food. It's not a legit Korean fried chicken joint. If you're expecting double fried crispy exterior sealing in moist tender juicy chicken, look elsewhere. If you just want to drink with friends while having an excuse to eat fried chicken skin, it's not bad. But here's the real killer. At 17000 won for a regular order of tiny scrawny dried chicken, and 15000 for fried stuffed peppers, it ain't exactly cheap for the product you're getting. The owner is a she-devil-witch and customer service was terrible. The macaroni pasta crackers are only complimentary if you order beer and alcohol. Owner will also judge you based on what you order. We ordered close to 40000 won or 37 usd worth of food for just the two of us and were insulted, that's right, insulted by the owner. The lady had the audacity not criticize us by saying, "you know, you guys can't just come here to eat chicken without ordering beer. We are not a place where you can just order chicken." So you can imagine how upset we were having spent this much money to support their business, not to be thanked and leaving it just as that, but to tell us that we were not being good customers because we didn't order overpriced beer and stayed longer to order more food. Tldr. Owner insults and looks down on customers, admits her restaurant is not for eating chicken only. Chicken is dry and overpriced, but that I can live with Business owners here are greedy and don't deserve your business. Please stay away and look elsewhere if looking for true Korean fried chicken experience. Don't be misled by other reviewsMore

This is recommended by Korean friend. Fried chicken and pepper taste so good!! Staffs are nice. Lots of nice shops around for shopping.

If you like beer or soju AND you're like me ... more an eater than a drinker ... OMG ... STOP by this place and order the FRIED PEPPER!!!! I've never had stuffed peppers that tasted better than the one they serve here!!! I wish...I could fly to Seoul just to have this again!! I didn't try the chicken ... but friend says they're yum too!! the ddukbokki was tasty too!!!! The name of this establishment is "HAN Jan eh CHU Uk" - abbreviated to HanChu. :-)More

Came here bc of Mark Wiens and I guess I’m a little puzzled. The food was fine but nowhere near the best Korean fried chicken I have had. Our chicken was moist for sure but there was way too much batter and it was overfried...where the crust crunched like hard crackling. The stuffed peppers were just ok and needed some salt but maybe this is bc you have to season to to your own taste. The fried squid was the same. Maybe I like Korean fried chicken in the USA better and it’s a different style. Bottom line: I’m glad I tried this place but I won’t be coming back.More

This was a place frequented by local young professionals in the Gangnam area. Great chicken and ice cold beer is now one of my favourite combinations. This place was very busy. They do not seem to want to accommodate tourists so much, just the local...crowd. But they served us and were very helpful in helping us choose the chicken that we wanted. If you are looking for a local haunt with great food, this is probably the place you want to go.More

Chanced upon this restaurant while googling “best korean fried chicken.” Mark Wiens and Lady Iron Chef as well as culturetrip mentioned Hanchu on their sites, so I decided to give it a try. It is right off Garusogil and is a nice end to a...day of shopping. It’s a very basic restaurant, more like an eatery. When we came in, there was just 1 other table occupied by foreigners, tho the resto is packed with locals. We ordered the original fried chicken with 2 bottles of Cass Beer. The chicken doesnt look appetizing when it arrived, but when I took a bite, it was flavorful rich of umami flavor. Lightly battered, it was not greasy at all. Perfectly paired with ice cold beer. It’s straight up fried chicken done right.More

It's very close to the shopping area-Garosu-Gil. we went there around 10 pm and it's still very full. friend chicken and stuffed green peppers were both good.
