Banished to third floor purgatory. Seated by the kitchen even when not busy and wouldn't move us. Not friendly. Slow service. Expensive by Hong Kong standards. Dumplings pretty good.

If you have a lot of money and don't want to wait for lunch then this place may be for you. We had dim sum, and The food was very good but way overpriced. The tea charge per person alone is HK$33, though the tea is very good. The food was fresh and well prepared but the selection of dim... More

This is a world famous Dim Sum restaurant and is a must see in all the guide books. But I simply don't know why. The food is good but not great but it's the service that lets it down. The staff are not very attentive, the food is slow and communication is difficult; they go for tourist trade so need... More

Visited Luk Yu for the first time. Portions are generous & taste of dim sum is good. Ambience is good - typical upper class tea house style. As one walks up the stairs, old fashioned decor greets the eye. One can have a leisurely yumcha (literally 'drink tea' in Cantonese) & enjoy fellowship with family & friends. Waitresses walk around... More

This restaurant was quaint and had a great atmosphere- they appeared impressed when we were able to do the pre dinner tea process and after that we were in. The food was fantastic, atmosphere perfect and location easy to find. Highly recommend and would go back.

Can you have a bad food experience in the culinary heaven that is HK? Today I found out you can. On the faith of the excellent reviews, we went. Sure this place is "traditional"- in the sense that the dimsum is coarse and unimaginative, the waiters in their stained uniforms are rude, the decor is dated and the cutlery and... More

Delicious and great taste of dimsum! We also ordered non dimsum meals which was also very good - rice with beef and veggies, price was relatively okay, a bit pricey than average dimsum, but with also old chinese style interior makes it better, worth to try and visit! Loved it

We followed guide book recommendations for this place and in many ways I wish we hadn't. The décor is interesting and traditional. The food was on the whole pleasant but a little expensive. The service was ok but badly let down by the waiter bullying us into leaving a tip in addition to the service charge. For this reason I... More

We had a shock of our lives 2 times during our dining experience. 1 was when the food started coming. We remember that we definitely didn't order that much and the waiters didn't manage to find the order chit. When the bill came...we were charged 400hkd for 12 servings of tea. 20hkd for the plastic bags for takeaway. Do not... More

Staying in Central

Neighbourhood Profile
Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
