Cha siu here was excellent, as was the green sauce. So good, in fact, that I ended up getting a second round!

The roast goose was very dry and unappetizing. The roasted pork (char siew), however, was very fatty and yummy. Not the best place for roast goose but do order the char siew.

The Three Treasures Rice 三宝饭(combination of three different meats comprising roasted duck, barbecue pork and soy sauce chicken) is a must try if you are a tourist and don't know what to order.

I have been here 3 times over the past two months and having tried roast goose at various establishments in between visits, have concluded that this version is the best. The meat is juicy and flavourful but not overly salty, as often is the case of roast meats. Arrive 10-15min ahead of opening time for weekday lunch to avoid the... More

We arrived after friends had told us about this place. They said it was amazing, the best pork they had ever eaten. We would have to agree. It is a tiny restaurant, if there are spare seats you sit there, with unknowns usually. There is nothing in English but we had been told about the pork so when gestured to... More

My wife and I live in Hong Kong, and this is arguably our favorite place to eat. Definitely our favorite place for lunch. The BBQ meats are expertly cooked with time honored traditions, and you can taste this in every bite. We first came here after hearing Anthony Bourdain rave about it on one of his shows, and it lived... More

We went to Joy Hing at 3pm on a Wednesday and the place was still packed. Like most local eateries in Hong Kong, space is tight and haphazard. Though busy, the staff were pleasant compared to those we have come across in other local HK restaurants. We had roast duck, bbq pork and roasted pork rice. The duck was not... More

Tourists who want authentic, new, different etc. We hit Hong Kong with a list of places - foodie, chic, hottest in SoHo, Anthony Bourdain's faves. etc. etc. Some were expensive but worth it, some expensive but not, some funky and new, and so on. Joy Hing was on our list, but unfortunately the only thing on our list in Wan... More

Dropped in for takeout after dinner elsewhere. Siu yuk was disappointing being way too lean and dry. Meat roughly chopped up in size with bits of bone so when chewed, had some difficulty telling bone from crackling! Goose was acceptable, not brilliant but safe to order. On impulse decided on pigeon to try. Meat lean, chewy and gamey with a... More

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centres of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
