I visited yesterday to fill the Tonkatsu deficit in my diet. There was a time, that 30minutes before the gates went up, there would be a crowd lined up. Today, Tonkichi has a few more outlets in HK and there are other Tonkatsu places as well. I have visited these as well... but tonkichi Tonkatsu at the world trade centre... More

Tell a real japanese what he thinks about this restaurant... The price of the raw fish is just incredible. Not enough choice of fish and sea food (almost nothing). It is more a fast food than a restaurant. It is the worse japanese restaurant i have never seen in all the civilized countries i went before.

Tonkichi is located on the 4/F of World Trade Centre, Causeway Bay in Hong Kong. It is a specialty restaurant for Tonkatsu (deep fried pork cutlet) but it also serves other dishes like sashimi and sushi. When you order a cutlet dish, it comes in a set with pickled radish, miso soup, rice, and unlimited refill of shredded cabbage salad.... More

One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in town. The cutlet is delicious, though deep fried, but never oily, and the batter never too thick, just good enough to wrap around the meat for the crunchiness. The tonkatsu set comes with shredded cabbage salad and rice, the latter two are free for how many refill you may want. Cabbage is so... More

This is my quick fix for tonkatsu whenever I visit Hong Kong and cannot make it to Japan. Love their all you can eat cabbage salad and dressing. If I remember correctly, there is 2 kinds of pork you can choose, one is more on the fatty side and the other one is leaner. Pick the fatty one, you will... More

Tonkatsu when I was young and on a low budget in Japan was a lifesaver - nutritious, filling, very affordable. The fried pork cutlets, by custom served with shredded cabbage, a sharp mustard, and a sweetish dark sauce, are on many Japanese restaurant menus around the world but rarely done as well as at home. This place comes close, though... More

Good food, good ambiance, good view, good service ! Though cutlet style, you cannot find a single drop of oil at the bottom of the dish ! And the finely shredded cabbage will sure help to relieve any remaining fear of deep-fried food.

The décor is good, food quality is good, but not impressed with the service. I ordered the deluxe Sashimi dish. When it arrived, it had great presentation and was looking forward to enjoying the dish. However, I always enjoy clearing my palate with a bit of ginger and a little o' cha between each cut of fish. I asked the... More

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centres of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
