Had dinner and drinks with my wife here last weekend. Staff we very friend and there was an event going on whereby they had restaurant critics / bloggers onsite trying their food. We felt a little out of place as we just wanted to have a few drinks and eat but nevertheless, everyone was very friendly.
Christian was the bartender who took care of us at the beginning (we arrived at 5pm for drinks) and then later Irene & Elisa assisted as the wait staff. Everyone was friendly and it is a place we have been to before so knew what to expect.
Unfortunately, they didn't have the AMEX credit card deal any longer so we spent a few $$ but it was worth it.

Living in the eastern part of the island, the cuisine of choice is Peranakan. In fact, there are a number of eateries around the East Coast area that can lay claim to serving this wonderful cuisine.
My lunch companion and I found ourselves at this restaurant, and with our temperatures checked, hands sanitised and SafeEntry QR code scanned, we were ready for a hearty meal. In place of physical menus are QR coded ones pasted on each table. The dishes are not traditionally Peranakan, with most of them are fused with Western and Asian dishes.
We started with the Otah You Tiao (spicy fish mousse spread in between crunchy dough fritters), a fitting and tasty appetiser; though the charcoal blackened fritters may not look too appealing to some. The Chicken Rendang Lasagne (minced chicken stewed in a rich gravy of spices between layers of
pasta sheets) could be a little spicy for some, but after the first few bites, one grows accustomed to its taste. The Ayam Buah Keluak served with White Jasmine Rice (the restaurant’s signature dish consisting of a chicken thigh stewed with assorted spices and buah keluak served with pickles) was a standout. Our last dish was what Peranakan cuisine is all about, the Chap Chye (stewed vegetables).
It was a satisfying lunch indeed with capable service rendered by the restaurant team members, particularly Andre (I think that was his name).

My mum and I used a coupon which was really worth the money - Appetizers (salad), Main Course (Prawn Hor Fun or Sweet and Sour fish w fried rice), Drinks (Coffee or Tea), and desert (Vanilla or Coconut).
The rustic Peranakan furnishing such as the choice of crockery, the floor tile, and the center piece, the bar, really helped to create a cozy and nostalgic atmosphere.
Service was excellent. We were served by Elisia who is very patient, and takes photos like a professional.
The Hor Fun was good with fresh prawns. But the sweet and Sour fish w fried rice amazed me in a really pleasant way. The wok hey smell was there in the rice. Meanwhile, the sweet and sour fish is on a class of its own. The flour coating was not excessive, yet it was fried to the perfect golden brown crisp. Despite being coated with a perfect balance of sweet and sour sauce, the fish remained crispy even towards the end of the meal.
Overall, I really enjoyed the ambience, food, and service. Would come back again with more friends and family once the restrictions are eased.

Stay at Hotel Indigo Katong so the obvious choice was to dine at Baba Chews since it is attached to the property. We had our breakfast and dinner there.
The deco was nice with good comfortable seats. But it’s layout could be better, as it creates quite a few blind spots which makes it difficult to attract staff’s attention when required.
The staff are all friendly and professional. But major down side was that their service standard is a little inconsistent. Had a better dinner experiences compared to breakfast, and this could be due to the staff in the morning are overwhelmed by the breakfast crowd. The dinner crew were definitely more friendly and manage to create a more welcoming vibe, they even move about the tables to chat and check with guest on the meal.
Likewise with the food served. The dinner selection was definitely more tasty as compared to their breakfast. There is a wide breakfast menu of Asian and western choices but nothing on it was specially memorable, not even their Laksa (which is suppose to be a specialty of the area). But we did had a great meal during dinner service; ordered the cheese burger and the chili crab pasta, both were excellent. The burger was especially good, it’s patty was thick and juicy and the buns fluffy (one of the best tasted).
With so many other F&B outlets around the hotel, Baba Chews needs to bring their ‘A’ game to stand out from the rest. In general it is a decent place to grab a bite but it would not be on my first choice list.

When we arrived for Sunday brunch we were greated by a few tables that had not been cleared from half finished meals. These tables were only cleared an hour later. The only two staff around did their best, but obviously grossly understaffed. None of the five main courses we ordered were memorable, very ordinary, and the wait from the kitchen was long. The last two dishes were served 10-15 minutes after the first. Huge selection of spirits in the bar, but half of the displayed bottles were empty. Not recommended.

We decided to have lunch at Baba Chew's upon a friend's recommendation. We were greeted warmly by Elisha who remembered taking my reservation and eagerly advised us on their specials/popular dishes. We decided on yutiao otak, beef rendang, coffee pork ribs, rice and kueh durian. My friend had highly recommended the buah keluak but we didn't have the capacity to include the dish. Since I am not crazy over durian, I took a slither of the kueh durian to try - durian lovers would probably love the kueh durian as it was redolent with durian scent. We liked the food and ambience. Elisha and her colleagues very conscientiously but in a non invasive fashion cleared dishes as we finished and quietly refilled our cups with warm water. No one chased us and we were able to enjoy the ambience As the afternoon shifted to teatime, we ordered hot chocolate to round off a languorous Sunday. It is so wonderful to share an afternoon in a place where everyone is welcoming. Elisha's service was excellent- she is such a genuine and obliging person. We will definitely return

First visit, it was a great experience. Cozy and warmth ambience. I would have given this eatery an excellent rating for overall experience but because the menu has limited choices, hence I gave it a 'very good', hoping they can add on more variety to the food choices. Ordered the kueh pie tie which was just normal kueh pie tie priced at $10, which I feel was way overpriced. Quesadilla Chicken rendang was good. Ayam Buah Keluak was flavourful and the chicken was really tender. The fish and chips remained crispy and hot despite been left for a long time. Food overall was nice but it was not that great that will make me go back for the 2nd time. We wanted to order a cake but was too full after 2 small bites and 2 mains. I RSVP this place via chope and indicated it was for a birthday celebration for my mom. Service was spot on from the start to the end. Just after we finished our meals, one of the staff (I assumed was the manager) came over and checked if we were there for a birthday celebration and said he will arrange for something. We were surprised with a nicely decorated piece of complimentary ondeh ondeh cake and the staffs sang birthday song. What impressed me was the staff did noticed what was indicated on the RSVP note. To me it makes the whole dining experience a great one! The ambience of the place was also good for friends and family to just chill out. There was also an outdoor space for after dinner drinks for chats and laughters.

Really high quality food prepared by a celebrity chef at an incredibly affordable price! Location is at the ever so interesting Katong so you can go sightseeing after you're done eating. Got served by Elisia Asheera and Irene. Great waitress, amazing atmosphere and even better food!

The service was divine. Friendly, efficient service staffs Irene and Elisia ensured that our food experience is memorable. They wee patient with our requests (some dietary requirements) and reacted to our requests timely. The food is great! A unique mix of local flavour with dishes we commonly eat. Quite creative. (Visit before Phase 2 - HA)
Very expensive for local fare and bottle of house red ~$80. We spent abt $50 per pax for table of 5 adults with 2 shared starters, a main course each (like nasi lemak, pizza) and a bottle of wine.
However the service was excellent (shout out to Irene & Elisa) and the ambience was good. Relaxing place to chill with friends after Saturday morning run, but can't afford to do this often though.

food is of good quality, though nothing super special. i enjoyed the char siew cod fish risotto, however the salted egg pork belly burger wasn't as enjoyable. we really liked the sweet potato fries as well!
in particular, waitress Elisia was very warm and helpful while we decided on dishes! she even took out her phone to show us pictures of dishes not provided in the menu :) would like to thank her again for her amazing service!!

I'd like to specially highlight the service levels of staff Elisia, not only was she helpful in explaining the menu...but her friendly disposition despite challenging times taught us the resilience of the F&B crew.
she also proactively helped us with photo taking to capture our memories. .
the food was also very yumz and we finished every single morsel on the plate.
