Take a train to Tanjong Pagar MRT station and walk for about 100m to reach the Amoy Street Food Centre. There are about 60 stalls on L1 and L2 and you have a good choice of the best local food. The Teochew beef kway teow is one of the best in Singapore. You get a big bowl of kway teow with beef, trotter, xian cai and a small plate of good chilly sauce. The old couple who run this stall has been around for the last twenty years and I fear that once they have retired, there may not be a successor to take over this famous stall. The price of a big bowl of beef kway teow is $5.00 and the quality is better than those of the famous restaurants. If you want to taste authentic Singapore food try this stall and you will come back for more.

Seems like the recent trend is for Pao Fanz tried this stall Pao Fan at Amoy Street Food centre #02-120. It was very good. I ordered the Seafood Paofan. Came with 4 lala, 3 pieces of prawns and 3 pieces of fried fish for $8. I went back 2 days again to pack home for the whole family! They closes on Saturday and operates till 3pm on the days that they are open. So go by and try. Lovely couple.

Many stalls selling good food, with each Singapore person having their own faves. This is a shout-out for Harry’s Eurasian Pies on level 2 at 02-130. There were three selections and we tried all three. The most interesting one was the Devil’s Curry option. Totally yummy - we ordered for an office lunch and everything was piping hot and delicious. Definitely worth trying as pies are slightly more unusual fare and Eurasian food being even more hard to find in Singapore. Decent value for a gorgeous lunch!

This food centre is popular and it is best to dine here before 11 am before the office crowd arrives. There are many popular stalls offering a wide choice of food. It is one of my favourite food centre and I frequent it whenever I am in this area such as on my walk in Chinatown.

Excellent zi char (权记)that is very popular among the locals. The bitter gourd fish head is super yummy with nice wok (smoky) flavour. Also love the prawn paste chicken, pork ribs, crispy Hing Kong noodles. Great place for family meal at affordable price. We spent $77 for 3 people feeling very satisfied after the good meal. Service was very fast despite the big crowd.

Great food centre, many food choices and prices very reasonable. Basic seating colorful melamine serving dishes, nothing fancy. You can easy spend days here trying the different Asian cuisines. Only drawback is that this area has no air conditioning and definitely not a place to hang around after your meal.

What a unique place to get lunch!! We actually walked right up to it and did not realize that this corner had so much food offerings available for lunch! It is worth a stop over to Amoy Street Food Centre- a huge hawker centre! There are way over 50 -75 vendors that sell food to go. Too much to choose from for sure! You can hold your table with placing a napkin on it, then go line up at the food vendor that you are interested to purchase your meal. Lines do get long but they do move. There are no napkins but there are sinks that you can wash your hands. We ordered lunch from A Noodle Story #01-39 on the 1st floor corner. It was a big order of noodles that included a potato wrap prawn, pork roll, char siu pork, an egg, and scallions along with an additional optional 5 pieces of won ton that I purchased in addition. It was a very filling lunch for sure! You may purchase your drinks at a vendor that sells drinks exclusively. In addition, make sure you carry enough cash as they do not accept credit cards. Lot of selections for everyone and if you don't see anything you like, head up to the 2nd floor and perhaps you will locate something to eat!

We went there quite late when the majority of stalls were already closed. Because the surrounding bars and restaurants were packed we ordered 2 duck dishes from one place. The food was nothing what it looked like on the photos advertising it. It had some flavor and contained some duck pieces but if we hadn't been so hungry we had left it. The whole area was filthy including the tables and whilst we sat eating we saw a rat nearby. What happened to Singapore, the capital of cleanliness?

Singapore's food hawkers located all over Singapore. Tried out a number and was impressed by quality and quantity of food offered for very reasonable prices. Also Singapore is a great place to visit during our winter. Sunny 34 days and 24 degrees at night.

As an island country, fish is an important staple of Singaporeans. There is no need to visit expensive restaurants to savour good fish, as there are several hawker centres that sell value-for-money fish. One of them is Amoy Street Food Centre. As it has many stalls selling fish dishes, each stall needs to find its niche, keep its price low and maintain certain quality in order to survive this competitive battleground. I am a fan of grouper. To quench my craving for this seawater fish, I frequent stall #01-49 Ah Hai Fish Porridge and Seafood Soup. While their fish porridge and seafood soup are popular, it is their freshly steamed grouper that I am crazy about. Stall owners, Ryan and his wife Hongxia are extremely friendly. They shared with me the secret behind their great-tasting grouper—simply source for the freshest fish. It is a standard Hong Kong style steamed grouper, but with watchful timing to ensure the oily fish is not overcooked and remains sweet and succulent. As seen in the second picture, the meat is firm, yet easily broken off. There must be another secret Ryan is not telling me… his grouper seems to have a buttery aftertaste that turns my craving into an addiction. It is really hard to resist when it costs just SGD8.

There is absolutely no reason to go for lunch during "lunch hour" from 1-2pm and jostle with the torrential crowd that come to this food centre at that time. Not only is the wait time long, there is also no empty table at that time. The crowd that eats here every day has honed their skills at spotting empty tables and reserving them while ordering their food at the stalls to an art. Nonetheless, I dont think that I'm wrong if I were to say that you can try every thing at the food centre and you will not be wrong. The popular ones of course is the famed chicken rice stall, and the fried fritters stall. I personally find the cold dessert stall good as well, given the hot weather.

I like this food centre, it’s not particularly tourist orientated but is within easy reach of the more touristy parts of Chinatown. Generally good food, in particular I liked the stall selling curry puffs. Well worth searching out.

The Amoy Street Food Centre is near the Chinese Methodist Church at Amoy St. There are some 50 food stalls selling Chinese , Malay and Indian food. I like the coffee which is served in the traditional small and thick coffee cups. The Teochew rice and porridge stall is also famous for its salted vegetable, porridge, pork, and steamed cuttle fish. You are also provided with tau cheo, chilly with vinegar and black sauce. The food is good and you get value for your money. The hawkers are polite and they do not mind serving you during the non peak hours. Here you can get a great variety of local Singapore food at a very cheap price. This place is worth a visit.
