We had a shared, light dinner with another couple in this bar/restaurant in Chijmes. We shared a bottle of Australian wine which was very drinkable. An assortment of shared dishes was ordered with my highlight being the tempura corn. Very tasty. The most unusual dish...- my choice - was the stringray fin. Nicely charred, a tad gelatinous. It was a busy Friday night in Chijmes and every restaurant was busy, so better book ahead of time. But we are lucky to stumble on this nice Japanese restaurant. Though it;s limited hour to stay as we don’t have booking, we still enjoy the...food and drinks. They are reasonably priced and good choices. Try their mixed platter, it’s good for sharing. Just because I came solo? This server, the older guy in a black mask treated me terribly, probably thinking that I was solo and would not order as much. However, food is good. So if u don’t mind turning up solo and being treated as...a solo ie being discriminated, it’s fine. If not, turn up at least in a pair.More
Great service and ambience. You can order teppanyaki from Tatsu as they are under the same company. The assorted vegetables are delicious but the vegetables and mushrooms have some parts that are undercooked. Uni sushi are delicious! The a4 wagyu beef is not bad but...quite oily.More

We flew in from Australia and just over the road from The Carlton hotel is Chijmes with all of it’s amazing places. This is one of them.
I went down with a group of friends and absolutely loved the atmosphere, the drinks and the food. They had a wide selection of alcohol which I enjoyed even though I'm not a heavy drinker myself. The atmosphere was cozy, romantic and I felt at...home. The staff were friendly and genuinely seemed to enjoy serving you, which I really appreciated. We ordered some yakitori sets, grilled squid and some sushi to share as we chatted and drank. No matter how much we ordered, it always seemed like we could never have enough. My personal favourite was the grilled skilled and this sushi which I think had avocado and eel. Since The Modern Izakaya is a bar/restaurant, the food they provided all really went well with alcohol and we kept picking on the food till there was none left and we had to order more! The place was perfect for a gathering with friends. We drank, had good bar bites, good service and the atmosphere was perfect. I can definitely see it as a usual hang out for us!More
Located on Chijmes, this restaurant is a place to have a break after hanging around. As the name suggested, you will find a Japanese food menu for sure. Quality of the food was good here, even though a bit pricey. But considering this is Singapore,...just normal lah... :)More
Food was sub-standard to bad. Service was awkward but sincere, at the very least. Wouldn’t come back as prices don’t justify the food that we ordered.
This contemporary Japanese bar has a nice restaurant setting and they have an imported Japanese grill with bincho charcoal. We came in for lunch and sat inside and the air-con was really good which made lunch more enjoyable as it was a good escape from...the heat. The beer was ice cold too. The dishes we tried were delicious, I had the Beef Steak Don & my partner had the Tori Teriyaki Don. Great food and service will definitely be back next timeMore
Great place for casual hangouts with friends or couples. Good and lively ambiance without being too loud. We were with a group of 5 so we ordered mostly the skewers platters and sushi sets. Food is generally good. Beef cheeks are super tasty. Wine is...also good. But on a high end price for what you actually get.More
Have not been to chimjes for a very long time n glad I came. The place has revamped to a very great place e for dining n a cool place to hang out with friends. We had 2 720ml bottles of sake priced at $90...n $80 respectively I would say is pretty reasonably priced. We ordered grilled squid was succulent n not rubbery very well done n tasty. Also ordered edamame, mushroom, asparagus bacon, quail eggs n 2 played of mixed aburi sushi that cost around $190. Our total bill came up to $390 for 3 persons. Food is not cheap but at least are delicious.More
Was at Chijmes for an event on a Fri evening. Was early and looking for a place for a quick bite. This place looks nice and gave us a table for 2. The food is good. The California roll we had honestly is the best...I had. Was never a fan of California roll, but this is worth eating. Had a few sticks of chicken skin, chicken liver and gizzard. Nice! Restaurant also offers sake, Japanese beer, whisky, gin, etc. Not a very big place but definitely worth trying.More
