We arrived at noon to find a very long queue snaking in front of the restaurant. Undaunted, we got into line. After half an hour, we could place our orders. We chose to be seated in the air conditioned upstairs dining room. We tried a...variety of dishes, none of which was outstanding. The chicken and squid was tough, the jack fruit vegetable curry was overly salty, the rendang was super chilli hot. The green curry was decent. Service was poor and slow, cutlery hardly sufficient for their customers. The level 2 dining area was incredibly loud and noisy, impossible to sit comfortably to chat. Little reason to return.More

My wife, a Medanese likes good quality Padang food very much and we visit this restaurant often. We like the chicken with coconut floss, rendang and fried potato, sambal petai and ah Jae. We also order the tahu with black sauce if not sold out....Drink will be hot tea or coffee and some Bandung (pink colour with milk drink) if available. Next time you are near North Bridge Road go try eat here (air con upstairs). You can park at a public car park nearby.More

This is a great place for breakfast, there’s a large assortment of dishes to choose from. The place is generally quiet on weekday mornings. Sit upstairs for an air-conditioned meal, but downstairs to experience the bustle of the area, especially on weekends.

Whenever Im n the neighbourhood at lunchtime, I can never resist having a meal at Minang . They can be a bit pricey if you select the " wrong" items but if one sticks to the veges and just order one fish or meat ,...it's still reasonably priced, I miss some of the dishes they use to prepare like kacang botol salad, but I guess I hve to go elsewhere for that ! I used to be a regular here 20 years ago in 2000. The food was aromatic and delicious and you can't help but get addicted. Filled with the same anticipation and enthusiasm, I just tried this yesterday and it was a complete let-down. The so...called signature beef rendang was just salty and lacking the aromatic spices of the past. Also, meat texture was pretty tough. Perhaps my expectations were too high after reading a news article about the beef rendang. The sambal sotong was another huge disappointment. Totally lacking in flavour, it was just sweet tasting which is not what I expect of a sambal dish. The fried fish was acceptable but again, the flavour of the chilli on top could be improved. The prawns were salty and lacking in flavour too. Thank God for the lime juice which still retains its taste of the past. The cashier's attitude was also unfriendly. After paying, I decided to add-on a lime juice and he was clearly impatient and irritated. Overall, the restaurant decor is nicer but the food and service needs to be greatly improved. Hopefully, they can bring back the taste of the past. Would not be back again.More

We stopped by for lunch after visiting the Sultan Mosque on a hot, steamy afternoon. The open dining area was packed, with a queue formed upto the ordering/cashier station. So the air conditioned dining hall (via the side staircase leading up) brought a much welcomed...respite from the afternoon heat and humidity. The food that followed within 15 minutes of ordering was typical Padang fare and was plentiful, tasty and spicy. We had beef, 2 chicken dishes, fish, 3 vegetable dishes and sweets for less than S$12- p/person. The food was delicious and plentiful. Recommended.More

With Indonesian blood I must say Minang delivered the authentic taste of Indonesian cuisine especially on the rendang. The padang style means that we could choose whatever was on display but they had them in small quantity perhaps so it keeps the food fresh and...tasty. All of my dishes was served hot although it was way past lunch time. And the Mee Rebus was really delicious with thick sauce that seaps right into the yellow noodles, giving it a silky texture and full flavour. Best of all, they served the Teh Botol! Jasmine Tea! This restaurant has been around since the 1950s, the food is very good. The place is clean & has an A/C upstairs area which is nice & comfortable to enjoy the great food.

Came by yesterday on a whim after shopping around the area. Great location..came for a late lunch. Food were delicious...the tauhu telur were delicious..although a tad of a big portion for a single diner.. The only concern that I have was the presence of birds...in the eating area..to me it can be quite annoying and unhygienic..More

I've been a faithful customer to this restaurant for more than a decade now (as far as i can afford to recall). Another fantastic one is located not too far away named Sabar Menanti 2 which is actually situated on Victoria Street. Their main staples...of course are Minang dishes which i'm a Big Fan of! Both eating places consistently serve delicious foods which explain their staying power and this intrigues me! Rumah Makan Minang has since grown (yes, i got to witness this!) with staff increase and renovation of sorts! I also absolutely love its convenient and prime location! Only complaint if i may have, the prices have gradually increased which saddens me a little but with consistent good service and delicious fares, the increase seems minor :) On a different note, i would love to drop by Sabar Menanti 2 but it opens too early and past noon, most foods were gone and it seems a typical standard pattern! Anyhow, The Sambal Berlado (green and red) is like to die for! Famous! Must Try!!!More

Food ran out at 1.30pm for lunch. Except for the Rendang, other dishes felt like roughly put together. Maybe because they think the customer don’t know any better. Most disappointed with paying for sambal that’s diluted because they ran out. The saving grace was the...friendly staff.More
