Expensive, but enjoyable

Lovely fresh starters and salada. Set meal great for one, but everybody choosing different meats or fish gets the same or similar salad. I wanted to take the salads home but when they wrapped up the take aways I got the protein but no salad. Next time I would bring my own take away boxes, and have only one set meal so others could have different desserts.

Great taste

Greeted well and staff attentive. We had a Greek salad and mixed meat platter. The food was very good, the meat marinaded to perfection as the taste was lovely. Had homemade baklava, you could taste the cinnamon, and it wasn't overly sweet. Had a couple of drinks. The bread was like a roti and a bit dry. The only slight negative is that the manager and partner run the business in full view of customers, chat about back of house stuff, and not quietly either. It could be the culture, which is fine, but I would have preferred some soft persian tunes 😆. Well worth a visit, but be warned it's pricey.

Various friends had recommended this restaurant and they were right to. Delicious food - fresh , light and tasty. Great service- the waiter advised on ordering quantity , dishes - was friendly and prompt. Best place we’ve eaten at in Singapore for a long time .

Poor presentation of persian cuisine to high prices

I was visiting Singapore for the first time and find this restaurant online. I ordered a persian dish, which is a delicacy in persian cuisine “ Fessendjan stew”. The version they serve tastes only of Pomegranate molasse and seems not really contain any walnuts at all, this way it is of course very sour and cheep to make. The fact that you can choose between chicken and duck shows me, that the dish is not made in a traditional way. My mouth and throat needed a lot of water to get rid of the sourness. The rice served was cold and poorly decorated with yellow rice. Salad Shirazi’s dressing was tasteless. One should avoid eating special dishes in restaurants, which offer dishes from different countries. It is impossible to have the all around Know-how for a young cook. I am sorry, but if the cook offers this version of the “crème de La crème” of persian cuisine, he has probably never eaten a real good one. How could they call their restaurant “ finest persian cuisine”. That is misleading visitors.

One of the most expensive kebabs i've ever had!

Shabestan is a popular Iranian restaurant in Singapore, rated 4.3 stars by 1,113 visitors, so I had to try it myself. The restaurant is a 15-20 minute walk from the city center. It isn’t very convenient to get to, but the view of the Singapore River makes the journey pleasant. When it comes to service, I felt like it was a bit lacking. The waiters weren’t attentive to guests waiting to be seated or those raising their hands for the bill. The only times I got to speak to the waiters, they aggressively tried to upsell and get me to order more, which ruined the experience. I ordered a dish of koobideh and 2 glasses of Doogh, to which my bill amounted 70.62 SGD (30-40 GBP). This was one of the most expensive meals I’ve ever had. Looking at the price with the location and service, I think it’s excessive. Quality is one area where Shabestan did quite well. The koobideh was oily, juicy, and nicely cooked, and the rice was just as soft and tasty. The salad was fresh and went well with the sauce. The portion size, on the other hand, wasn’t balanced. The plate had very little rice, 2 skinny pieces of koobiodeh, and a lot of salad. I paid a premium for the dish only to be served salad in the majority, which isn’t that expensive, to begin with. For what you’re paying for, the portion size is really disappointing. Shabestan is really popular among Iranians in Asia. But I was very disappointed as it fell short in a lot of areas. Great Central Asian Food

This river fronted restaurant located on Robertson Quay has both outdoor and indoor seating. As ours was a large group, we were seated at an inside table, close to the show kitchen, and we could see the chef in action . Also, the inside is air conditioned, which makes it more attractive if the weather is wet or muggy, which is usually the case in Singapore. We ordered starters which included hummus and flat breads. We had to order pita breads separately, but they were oven hot when they reached our table. The vegetarian kabab platter was excellent, and easily served the six of us dining there. The Chicken sheikh was tastier than the lamb sheikh kabab, and came with saffron rice. We also ordered an okra curry which came in a rich tomato gravy. The highlight of the evening was the belly dance. It was entertaining, perhaps more so because the dancer was probably a Thai or Singapore girl, and not the Turkish dancer one would have expected. The wine list is extensive, but they also have draft beers, which go great with central asian foods.

Not Shabestan’s FINEST hour

This restaurant definitely overstates its position as a “fine dining” restaurant. The service here is at best a cafe level. Attention to detail lacks. Food wise it’s okay, flavours and presentation are okay. Value for money….well I’m afraid not. Location is good with “outdoor” seating undercover which is a bonus given the changing weather in Singapore.

NOTHING PERSIAN

This is an Indian owned restaurant with an Egyptian Chef. Nothing to do with Iran and Persia! Food is too spicy and had hints of Indian/Arabian in everything. The Ashe Reshteh is horrible missing all the main Persian Spices. It tastes anything but Persian. I came here about 4 years ago when it was Owned by an Iranian family and had real Iranian chefs! A Big disappointment, will not come here again..

Fake Persian doesn’t taste like real Persian food

I know Persian food well and have eaten in Persian restaurants all over the world including my home country of Iran. We got starters (mix platter), mains (kebabs and ghorme Sandi stew). Starters came out cold despite being advertised as warm. Meat and chicken were fatty and meat in the stew was Overall food tastes like Indian food not Persian food and made with wrong spices. Will not be visiting again.

An enjoyable repast of Iranian kebabs - but improve the seats please

First visit here. Found the bench seat rather uncomfortable as the cushioning has worn out and I could feel the wooden partitions. Service was friendly and quick. Food was very good. Started off with four dips which went well with their bread. The rice was well flavoured and fluffy. The kebabs of chicken breast and chicken leg and lamb skewers were delicious. Cooking chicken breast requires skill and experience and this was on display that day.

Exemplary food and customer service :)

Exemplary customer service from Shabestan. What left a mark on me was the attention to detail and humbleness of the staff named Tommy - he was knowledgeable on the food recommendations and was spot on the portions that we have ordered. I think I wrote to the restaurant about requesting a small cake to celebrate my partners birthday but I think the restaurant forgot, but my partner did mention it subtlety. We ordered some dessert and then came a cake later on. I am pretty sure even without that gesture I would have left a raving review of him and the restaurant. He even refused a tip. Food is exemplary and delicious but I think what will make me come back will be the memory of humbleness and the exemplary service that Tommy has provided. To the management of Shebastan, you have a gem in him. Really felt his warmth and care of us

This restaurant is really excellent. The middle eastern flavours that are presented in Shabestan's vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes is to die for. I really loved this restaurant and plan go back regularly.

Service couple of notch lower than the price they charge

Before I could finish my food, the waiters tried to take my plate away.. not once, twice but three time. I was so annoyed the third time that I gave it away… with a bit of an complaint that I wanted to finish the yogurt if they allowed me too. Unhappy with the approach. The manager try to calm me down with a set of free yogurt… that pissed me off even more.

Try this beautiful, friendly restaurant on Robertson Quay

Wonderful evening; very friendly attentive staff, especially Arun! We ordered two different chicken dishes and a beef dish, plus Tahdig rice. All delicious with great wine suggestion. Highly recommend. Beautiful location along the Singapore River in Robertson Quay.

Good food, good service and nice location

Been to this place 4-5 times and absolutely love the food. They've decent range of vegetarian dishes as well, which is great. They hummus is one of the best! The dishes are reasonably priced for the location and the quality of food & service. The staff members are nice and provide a timely service. We generally prefer sitting outside for the view. On weekdays, you can walkin and manage to get seats without long waiting time. However, I'd suggest making a reservation if you've particular choice of seating or if it's a weekend/holiday.
