Shukuu Izakaya is so much more than a bar, in fact i think saying its just a bar would be an insult to them. There is a nice calm homely environment as soon as you get into the bar and which nice J-pop/ J rock music at the perfect volume where its enough to enjoy the atmosphere but not enough to disrupt conversation. If sat closer to the back, you can even watch as the chefs prepare the various dishes and the food there is amazing. Not just the typical food of Udon and Kara-age but combinations that i didnt know existed with flavour profiles and textures that were unique. I was perplexed for a second but my gf and I soon grew to love the food. And the alcohol was super good. Smooth and sweet ( for someone who drinks whiskey neat all the time) and they even have glasses of yamazaki for those interested. They also have unique bottles of shojun and sake which can only be gotten there ( trust me i tried googling for them) which is actually decently priced (for sg standards). Definitely will go back there in a month or so!

My friends and I ordered the Tonchigi Wagyu, Yaki Gyu Tan, Kuributa Tontoro, and Gyu Ponzu, and we really enjoyed them! The meats were very flavourful (but not over done) in distinct ways, and I would love to try more of wide selection of meats next time! We also got the Mentai Rosti - this dish was a little odd for us, as we were used to rosti being much crispier. However, we very much liked the mentai sauce, and the rosti was a nice starchy complement to the selection of meats. Given that it is highly rated by others, perhaps you might want to give it a try and see if it is to your liking! I also got the Japanese Cloudy Apple Juice ($5) - while their non-alcoholic drinks seem a tad expensive, this drink came in a substantial glass and I feel that it is worth the price for a night out. The sweetness (although not too sweet) of the drink also worked well to complement the savouriness of the food. I would lastly like to commend the amazing service! Our food came quickly, and the staff were super attentive throughout and constantly came to refill our ice water. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for a casual night out with good food!

The atmosphere was what I had expected of an izakaya, lots of chatter, great pub-like atmosphere. It was a great place for people to gather after-work hours for a meal. The staff were friendly and helpful in their suggestion of sake, having tried the weekly special. Having been to an izakaya in japan, I decided to take my time in ordering food, as is the culture. However the waiting time for the food was quite substantial and I ended up ordering most of my food at once. I ended up with a potato salad, Torikawa Oroshi Ponzu (chicken skin with citrus and radish sauce) , minced pork katsu, fried chicken, with a pairing of sapporo beer. While the potato salad was average at best, I did fancy the minced pork katsu as it was really fragrant and flavourful with every bite. The onigiri had a refreshing taste given the stuffed white bait. All in all, I really enjoyed having my dinner here, the atmosphere was delightfully authentic and it was a really great place for conversations. Would definitely consider coming back again to try more things on their menu!

We went on 27th July in the evening and ordered the quote a few dishes. The highlights were definitely the charcoal skewers, especially the black pork collar and tochigi wagyu beef. The salmon sashimi was fresh and they provided thick slices. The waiting time for food is very short and service was great! The food may be on the pricier side but overall, the experience is an enjoyable one.

I popped by for a light meal on a Saturday night with a friend without much expectation, but the food was delicious with the sake! The rosti mentai was delightful and piping hot, each bite was scrumptious. The grilled squid also wasn't too fishy and went perfectly with the mayo. The ambiance was great, i got a quieter spot beside the wall next to the tower of sake boxes. The staff was friendly and helpful as well, especially when we asked for recommendations and what was in the sets.

Really cozy place in CBD. Walking through the blinds into the shop is a complete change of scenery away from the city and right into an authentic Izakaya joint. Food was amazing. The chefs selection is highly recommended and the stingray fins is a must try. Didn’t really enjoy the Buta Don, but then again why order a don in an Izakaya joint. The huge range of sake is perfect when paired with the food. Service was excellent. Waiters were very attentive, took the time to recommend and explain our meal. Highly recommend joint to unwind with good food and sake.

I ordered the Tempura Moriawase (Shuuku’s tempura selection), Inaniwa Udon and Pork Jowl Charshu (Slow-cooked Iberico pork jowl) and they were amazing! It’s one of the few times I truly felt that I could eat these 5 times over in one sitting and not get sick of them. The staff are really knowledgeable with the food they serve and as a customer I didn’t have to wait long to be served. I love the warm ambience as well. Will be back soon to try the other dishes!

Overall had a good experience, loved the ambience and the place was bustling. Would recommend not going at peak hours though, took a while to get the staff’s attention and there was some miscommunication regarding our sake order. But staff were really nice. Ordered the Shukuu’s experience platter for 2 with a $20 top up for an addition 180ml of sake. The mackerel and oyster was a bit too fishy for my liking (but then again, I’m not a seafood person). But I thought the charcoal skewers and gyu ponzu was really good. Enjoyed my experience there. 👍🏼👍🏼

Been wanting to reward myself after a long and busy day after work, was told about the service and variety of dishes at Shukuu and since it was near the Train station i decided why not to give it a try. Staff was really prompt and friendly in assistance. The food is definitely to my liking such as the hot soba soup which went well with the assortment of side dishes such as the salmon sashimi and stingray. Definitely a pleasurable and scrumptious experience making it one of my to go Izakaya places in future again.

Authentic skewers with great taste! I tried the meatball, Iberico and pork belly (salt and teriyaki flavours) skewers. All were perfectly tender, with just the right amount of charredness. The chicken skin was extremely addictive, and the grated radish gave a refreshing bite to it. I particularly loved the Japanese bar atmosphere and decoration in the restaurant as well. There was a relaxing vibe in the restaurant, much like a place where office workers would hang out on a Friday night. The food was a little on the pricey side, but if you're searching for an authentic Japanese izakaya experience, this is the place to go to.

Ordered the tako wasabi which was definitely a wonderful choice of starter to whet the appetite with. The kick of spice coupled with the freshness of the raw octopus made for a delectable combination. The wagyu skewer albeit being on the pricey side, was worth every penny simpy due to it being seared to juicy perfection.

Very easy place to get to, just a few minutes walk from the nearest MRT station. It's also situated very conveniently in the heart of the city area. We were warmly welcomed and seated promptly and the whole experience was pleasant throughout. There's a lot of variety to choose from, whether you're looking for skewers or rice bowls and almost any other sort of japanese food you can think of. The food also came really quickly. Really enjoyed the skewers in particular as they were well seasoned and had a nice smoky flavor. We didn't get to try, but they also have a large selection of sake with experience staffed to help you make a decision if you're a little lost.

Authentic Izakaya experience! Great ambience, great service and of course, great food. We started out with a "Tako Wasabi" which came in a petite bowl. Despite its appearance it packed a flavourful wasabi punch and whetted our appetites for the upcoming dishes Our "Dons" (Rice bowls) and "Charcoal Skewers" came next. The skewers were phenomenal and each of them left a lasting impression on my palate. The "Dons" were great as well and tasted really fresh. If you're hungry I would recommend getting 2 bowls because you would wolf these down pretty quickly. 10/10 would recommend.

The restaurant had dim lighting and the interior was casual and cosy. Ordered a few items to share. Favourites included the Maruro Yukke and Gyu Ponzu. They're a must-try as they are unique and yummy. The Satsuma-Age had large chewy chunks of octopus which provided a nice texture. The oden was comforting but similar to many places. The Mentai-Rosti was more like a potato style mentai pasta. Wished the potato was more crispy and the Mentaiko sauce just overpowered the whole dish. The Yasai Miso was basically this strong miso flavoured sauce with chunks of raw vegetables (yes you got that right), I'd give this a miss because the whole concept of the dish was bizarre. The sauce would have been too overpowering as a salad dressing. Overall, had an enjoyable dining experience.

I ordered a selection of charcoal skewers (chicken thigh, pork collar and beef skirt), which were the first dishes to arrive! The skewers were cooked well and had a distinct smokey aroma. I also ordered a Negitoro don, and the fish was extremely fresh, and came with a little quail egg yolk that added a very unique texture. Overall, the food was great and it was a very relaxing environment, excellent for a night of unwinding after a long day.
