Chose Empress for the great ambience for a dinner after a previous visit alone. Staff were very attentive and helpful with advice and recommendations, and even though the weather spoilt my plans of having a quieter outdoor seating area, the restaurant kindly accommodated my requests to shift to a more external spot later into the evening. Restaurant was compliant with safe management measures in an unobtrusive, professional way. Food and drinks were decent but the food was somewhat mediocre for the price, except the double-boiled soup in coconut which seemed impeccable from first sip to last.

Came here for a birthday dim sum session with my partner and I will say that the dim sum brunch really is worth it (approx 50++ per pax). Lovely selection and we ordered champagne and a king prawn hor fun on top of our dim sum brunch. We were greeted with smiles and FAB service throughout our meal from reception to servers to when we left and were presented with a birthday card and a personalised polaroid of my partner and I. Favs: SIU MAI, the salted egg pawns(already deshelled), seafood soup, CARROT CAKE, and the lovely desert they gave us on the house of sticky date toffeee pudding with vanilla ice cream. Really recommend this place for friends, family whenever even if not for an occasion.

If you want to enjoy an evening by the river, this is a great place. They serve a wide range of tasty and nicely presented local and Chinese dishes. The wine list is good, with prices on the expensive side. But this is Asia, and the happy hour offers are great value. Service is friendly and helpful. The location is great, by the river, lots of people to watch, and within walking distance of many of the sights of downtown Singapore.

My partner and I hosted a wedding dinner at Empress recently due to good reviews of the ambiance and food. While I do not disagree with the fact that the location, environment and food are above expectations, we were however met with quite poor service from the events person we were dealing with. First of all, we were given no flexibility at all on the minimum/guarantee number of pax. It is a wedding and we are all bound to be faced with last minute additions and cancellations, but we were forced to confirm extra round table of 10 when we indicated we might have 1-2 additional guests. At the end the 2 additional guests did not show up and we were left with extra food enough to feed the village. On top of that we wasted SGD 1K+ because the events representative did not provide good advice. It may not be in his role and responsibility, but I had a separate wedding dinner in Hong Kong where the events person was extremely helpful in providing us advice throughout, thus i felt a big difference this time. Also, I provided way in advance the holding slide to project on screen during our dinner that I created myself, but they replaced it with their own branded slide on the day of. Their restrooms are also quite disgusting to be honest, if I were a dinner guest I'd be okay, but for the brides with their long dresses it was a pain to use the restroom. Quite surprised nobody made a comment about that!

As other reviewers have pointed out, this restaurant has a stunning view of the Singapore river and a decent happy hour to watch the sun set. But the service is consistently a let down, either with rude / inattentive wait staff or others who have no idea what is going on. We were asked 3 times which wine we wanted , got served a wrong drink and subsequently charged for it. For a restaurant which positions itself on the high end side and supposedly serving innovative contemporary Chinese cuisine , the seafood - scallops and clams seemed like they were frozen and not fresh, masked by thick and sweet / salty sauces . Even the asmanthus in broth seemed overcooked / soggy and overpowered by the egg Overall a big disappointment , and caters to taste buds who have never had authentic Cantonese fare .

We looked up Google for a nice Chinese restaurant in Singapore and this one was written up favourably & also ranked highly so decided to try. The location of the restaurant was nice by the rive especially at night with reflection of lights on the water. Service was good. Dining room was very nice but the food was disappointing. We had king prawn dumpling soup, buns with chilli crab, seafood with fried tofu and fried cod & Angus beef cubes. We found most of the dishes were average. Could not taste any crab meat in the buns just mainly sauce & also too sweet. King prawn dumpling broth was a bit tasteless needed more flavour & the broth itself was fatty. The beef cube was not tender and certainly did not melt in the mouth. The fried cod pieces were very small therefore could not really taste the true flavour of the cod. We were given a wrong beef dish and the restaurant tried to rectify by not charging for it. The bill was S$110 for two. We enjoyed cheap chicken rice the previous night at Chin Chin more.

(1) Food quality : Below average. Dine here mid-June 2019 and returned again in Jan-20. Our favourite custard bun shown the below par quality. Not to mention the dim sum is no longer something to shout about. We had a near platter which was cold and indifferent as compared to those we had at hawker centre at the fraction of the cost. At the end of the meal, we could not highlight any dish that produced any “wow” factor. Better off giving another restaurant a chance next. (2) Special request : The ambience of the restaurant brought us back again to celebrate the birthday of a friend. The request for special birthday celebration arrangements was mentioned in our reservation. Obviously staff who took care of the reservation was not attention to our request. The special celebration at this restaurant was certainly made ordinary. The substandard and lack of attentiveness by the restaurant will unlikely to bring me back here again unless if significant improvement rendered by management.

Empress has always been one of my favourite restaurants that served quality and tasty food at moderate pricing. If you like to sit by the river and observe your surroundings, this is a good place to chill! My associates who were there with me for the first time made their personal reservations on the spot! They commented same sentiments. Will recommend you to visit Empress anytime!

Beautiful restaurant, attentive service staff and most important the food is delicious. We had CNY set menu, quality of ingredients is great, serving is generous for the price we’ve paid. Spotted the men in white shirt ( Manager ?) walk around to make sure dirty plates being cleared, drinks being refilled, etc. This small action made very enjoyable dining experience.

Prior to our visit to Empress, we had really high expectations of the food at the restaurant given the tons of good reviews that it had received. My fiancé and I even wanted to hold our wedding banquet here as we thought that the ambience and food were nice. HOWEVER, it was such a disappointment! Ordered the sharing set menu for two and we find that the standard of the food were just average. The triple roast platter was a huge disappointment despite it being one of the top 10 dishes that it’s recommended by the restaurant - Charsiew was tough and seemed to be overcooked, Roast pork was fatty and bland, Pork ribs were unpalatable. P.S. I feel that even the hawker centre standards are way better than the ones at Empress Lol. The rest of the dishes are just SO SO, nothing special to rave about. The service was okay though. I indicated in my booking that it was meant to be a Anniversary celebration dinner and the staff gave us a dessert - Pandan panecotta(?) for free which I thought that it was a nice gesture. But it didn’t taste nice also, it was too “jelat” and creamy for our liking. Overall, we will not visit again as the quality of the food is not worth the value. We were so disappointed with the food here. thank god that we decided to head down to the restaurant to try and “verify” the food and reviews first before proceeding to book the restaurant for our wedding banquet.

Visited this place for dinner with a friend. The view towards Boat Quay and high rise buildings just can't be beaten. Also the restaurant terrasse is stylish. However, the service we got was (at least partly) very bad. We ordered a beer when we arrived; After 20 mins no beers were on the table. We asked again, and a nother 10 mins passed by. Only after 30 mins did we get our tiny beers, when they also proclaimed "happy hour is now over". Not that we were there for the happy hour in the fist place, but still... We ordered a 7 course sharing menu. Quite pricy, so we exoected it to be excellent. It was more like... average for Singapore. So, this place is mixed indeed; some very good (particularely the view), and some not so good...

We went for our regular weekend lunch where we like to try out restaurant with good review. We ordered regular dimsum, peking duck, triple roast platter and mapo toufu. We find the dimsum passable. Not impressed with the peking duck and the triple roast really substandard and we couldnt even finish half of the plate. We ordered fried rice for the duckmeat and each of us could not even finished half bowl of the rice (there were 3 of us and we normally have big appetite). The mapo tofu saves the day and the service was excellent. We agree that this isnt a place we would come back again if we are looking for good quality chinese (fusion) food.

I’d give a bad review for almost all of the waiters who served us. There were a lot of them and they all seemed not so thrilled to have us there. Nobody explained to us the menus, which were extremely complex to order. There were lots of mistakes and mixed-ups arising from the lack of explanation. I guess it just ended with us paying more than we should have. There was one guy who was particularly not happy about us and kept recommending free flow coffee even when we made it clear that only one of us wanted but one cup of coffee. This guy kept asking if we could move the baby’s stroller away when it was not blocking anybody’s way. I’d understand if it’s restaurant’s policy to not have any stroller near the table, but he didn’t say anything about that, and kept on bugging us. I guess because we were not happy about his attitude, the waiter took away my baby’s spoon (it belongs to us) when we were not paying attention. I’m not sure if he did it on purpose, but when we found out and asked about the spoon, he bluntly denied of taking it. One thing to point out is that all of the waitresses were nice: one helped look for the spoon even though she was not directly responsible and one helped us open the block to let strollers pass. I believe that every parent would understand that babies do cling on to one type of utensils, and the lost spoon was just my baby’s favorite. I’m sure the spoon was placed in the porridge bowl when it was cleared away; even if I’m wrong, it is no justification for the waiter to respond with such rudeness. Plus we perfectly behaved that day, even the baby was so good and didn’t cry for once. The services are in serious need of improvement, or I don’t want to go back for anything ever.

I went for a friends birthday celebration - had the empress lunch set. The portion was just right and service was amazing. The restaurant prepared a cake and gave us a card with a Polaroid photo - great personal touch. Would definitely be back!

We just had our wedding event at Empress on 27 Feb (: The planning process was tiring for us but Bryan and the events team handled it well despite the venue being very busy during the CNY period. The entire event went smoothly and the staff were friendly and attentive to the needs to both indoors and outdoors. Some of our relatives even asked if they were our friends! It was a tiring day for them but they've continued to serve every table's needs and also assisted a lot with other wedding items like tea ceremony, grabbing photos, providing directions in and out. The covid 19 restrictions made things tougher, but the Empress team was accommodating and made us felt at ease. Food was pretty delicious! Even better than several hotels I've been to; it was served hot, is visually appealing, and definitely tasty and filling to leave the guests satisfied. While it is very similar to a typical traditional chinese banquet, the food at Empress has a modern twist. We especially loved the dessert (sticky date!) and our vegetarian guests felt very pampered too (: Atmosphere wise, the ambience was elegant and intimate and it was great for pictures without much decor effort. The only downside is perhaps that it could get really hot in the afternoon for the outdoor guests but they did provide fans and recently, air coolers too to ease the heat! Venue can be a little tricky to find for the elder folks so do prep some directions or guides for navigating them here :) Thank you team for the hard work!
