We were told this is a place that you must visit and eat fresh fish. The middle of the market has many fish restaurants. The service was quick and the calimari fried lightly and the sole melted in your mouth. Please drink the great Chilean beers.

Having being in Santiago many many times and having said that the Mercado Central is a MUST visit place in town it's quite sad to say our last trip to Donde Augusto restaurant (a synonym of seafood meca) was quite disappointing. When we arrived there in the early lunch hours of a beautiful Saturday the maitre placed us in one... More

The centolla is the large southern king crab found that is  found off the Pacific coasts of South America, especially from Valdivia to Cape Horn. There are four options of centolla at Donde Augusto, the always crowded central restaurant at the market. My favorite is the whole centolla, however it is normally large for one person. The whole centolla can be ordered in... More

One would assume that the best cooks would work on the one place every tourist visits in Santiago. My fish was rubbery, badly cut; it looked like an octopus rather than a conger. My wife's fish was exactly the same, skin was almost raw. I was able to contrast when we visited a different place by the coast a week... More

The seafood at this restaurant was simply delicious. Lots of choices and the service was great. It was very crowded and packed at lunch time. We had a great server Nicholas and he was very helpful, patiently explained different dishes to us and suggested wine to match our meals. Highly recommend it!

Well, we visited Mercado Central because it was highly recommended, and it was a close walk from our hotel. This was our very first restaurant we tried in Chile, and it left us an unforgettable impression. We ordered the ceviche and empanadas. The empanadas were good, and the ceviche serving was generous. We were having a good time until we... More

this is one of those places you have to go to for the experience - set in the old market with the fish market still working in part of it. The iron structure came from Glasgow i believe and it looks like Liverpool Street Station in London!! We were a big group that had pre-booked so the waiters were ready... More

Food was disappointing, fish was tasteless, it could look authentic but in my opinion is just a trick for tourist. They pass among the table singing and playing the guitar and they ask money like beggars (I hated it), they there disturbing and I think it's not polite asking for money. Service as well, very poor, waiters was not polite.... More

Mercado Central is a must visit when in Santiago. Dominated by fish, it's a visceral experience of massive amounts of super fresh fish. There are numerous restaurants in the centre, all vying for your attention. We chose Donde Augusto by looking at what was being brought to the tables. Good choice. Nothing fancy, but all perfectly cooked and very fresh... More

We visited this restaurant ten years ago when it was part of the Mercato Central; along with the fruits and vegetables. It was so charming with many of the waiters sporting mustaches and wearing metals. Now we entered the market and we were immediately accosted by five guys wearing red who wanted to seat us at their respective tables. The... More
