A bit on the pricier side but with a nice touch and attentive staff. We had the trio and the alpaca steak and we're both very satisfied. Tasty food and side dishes as well as home made sauces. Pisco sour was also very good.

This restaurant really is something different.. the volcanic boards kept the amazing fish and meat hot throughout the meal and the sauces were incredible! Well worth a visit :)

We wanted some good meat in Arequipa and Zig Zag was the pleace to be! Lovely staff and extremely friendly. We ordered the meat trio (i had lama, chicken and beef). We had the 200g option, which was perfect. The meat was cooked the way i like it (bleu style). I ordered mashed patatoes and green salad as side dish.... More

It is not a surprise that this restaurant is the # 1 in Arequipa as per TripAdvisor. In my opinion, this is fine dinning Andean food; however, the quantity is reasonable (not that small for fine dining). I had the meat trio with Alpaca - you should definitely try it. The food tasted delicious and it was served fast. The... More

We went having read a review in Lonely Planet and Trip Advisor, I thought the volcanic rock meat grill would be a gimmick but in fact it was really tasty and very tender. The 'rock' cooked our beef, lamb and alpaca to perfection . We shared a 300g portion of meat at 67 soles which left a small hole in... More

This was a really good restaurant. Delicious food and excellent service. It worth every cent you spend here. The meat was fresh and tasty. As a starter we had the cheese plate and this was just awesome. Especially if you're traveling for a longer time and didn't had good cheese for weeks. We enjoyed every bite. And the atmosphere was... We passed by here in the evening a few times and it was just too packed. We opted to go for a late lunch and ordered from the set lunches. Service was good, staff were nice. Relatively pricey but the food was delicious and nicely presented.

Great place for dinner. Although not the cheapest in town, it is worth every penny. We really enjoyed the great cheese selection (starter) and a delicious hot stone meat trilogy. What a dream! You have the choice of different meat types (e.g. beef, llama, pork, chicken etc.). Wine is available by bottle (3/8 and 3/4). We recommend taking a table... More

Food was great and of a very high standard for South America however the server added a 20% tip on the amount of the bill on card without informing us. There was no mention of a discretionary tip added to the bill on the menu so we then put 20% tip down in cash on the table and did not... More

The Alpandina dishes offered by the Zig Zag Restaurant are the result of a creative culinary fusion deeply rooted in the mountains, where the sun endows foodstuffs with energy and balanced components. The dishes most representative of Alpandino gastronomy arise from a marvellous synthesis of unique time-hallowed ingredients from all over Peru, combined with ancient and modern culinary techniques from the Alps and the Andes. One of the results is our great speciality: Volcanic-Stone-Cooked Meats and Fish. This culinary concept was generated specially by the restaurant's proprietor and Chef, Michel Hediger from Switzerland. During the course of many years in Arequipa, Peru, he has developed an original gastronomic proposal which enables one to savour different kinds of food prepared in an exclusive, healthy and very natural style, so that the restaurant's customers might compare and enjoy the country's different flavours. Located in the Historic Centre of Arequipa, opposite the lovely Plaza San Francisco, the Zig Zag Restaurant, with its impressive cast iron staircase designed by the famous French architect Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, is a unique place to enjoy a gastronomic evening with a difference.
