This restaurant is not particularly aimed at tourists. If you take the dishes from the menu, you are served quickly for a very low price. The food (from the menu) is simple but excellent. In addition, the setting is very friendly (quiet terrace or interior) and the staff welcoming. Excellent value.
Please note, no payment by credit card on the date we went there.

Style, food and welcome in fine Bulgarian tradition at Gostilnitza Churchura, A hearty clay pot dish and draft beer made a great lunch.
There is indoor and outdoor seating on a side street just off the pedestrian area near Fountain Nezavisimost
A wide range of Bulgarian dishes are available from casseroles to grilled meat and vegetables. Portions are large and good value for the moderate price. Service was attentive but unimposing. Menu available in English and the waiting staff spoke good English and helped with an explanation of the food.
Closed on Sundays.

Today I went for lunch in this tourist trap located in the center of Varna. I should have known from the style of the building that it was a tourist restaurant but I fell for it anyway. I ordered a portion of lamb, tiny, which cost the beauty of forty levs, about twenty-one euros. Then a moussakà: the waitress insisted that it had nothing to do with the Greek one; and in fact it was much meaner and more expensive than what is normally eaten in Greece, served with a cup of sour yogurt apart to put on it. But last but not least, I only found out at checkout that they don't accept credit cards. Unbelievable, given the starred restaurant prices. I happened to have enough cash, otherwise I would have been seriously embarrassed. In Varna you can eat better for half.

The place is cozy and has a rustic setting. The menu offers local dishes with a good choice of offerings. The tried dish that comes from Greek cuisine, moussaka, was served in a cocotte. The portion is generous so it's enough on its own. The result is not satisfactory, as you begin to eat it a large quantity of fat flows out which I was careful not to eat and in fact I moved it onto the plate with the spoon and the flavor wasn't that great either. Despite having eliminated a lot of the fat, I felt it was rather heavy. I understand that it is a traditional dish but I think it can be made with less fat.

Tasty Bulgarian cuisine. Generous portions. Excellent service.
We went for dinner having done a bit of searching. Booking response was immediate. The waitress spoke good English and was unassuming, helpful and attentive.
The food portions were generous and very tasty.

It only has one flaw. Which is closed for dinner. Ultra cheap restaurant with dishes finally typical and really quality. Attentive and friendly staff. Best fish soup of my life. Not to be missed!

Good and tasty traditional Bulgarian food. Good service and finally something in Varna that is not a burger or sushi. A great place.

To say it straight away: The food is not bad! Maybe I just had too high expectations for this restaurant with local food - after finally being able to eat there on the third try (first time we were late and second time the rooms were cleaned).
Since we were the only guests, we didn't have to wait long for the food. It was all the more surprising that all the dishes were lukewarm at best. It was also rather bland in taste. The fries were (probably) out of the box; only the sausage of the grill plate was well seasoned.
But I have to praise the service: It was extremely friendly and pleasant!
However, there was better local food at STARIA CHINAR!
