Found this four years ago, so had to come back. The setting is like a garden centre on steroids, the service can be a little quirky, but overall it's a good night out. Food doesn't disappoint and there is a great menu to choose from....Not to be missed in Chiang Rai.More

The hospitality, setting, music and food has to be experienced to be believed The restaurant was a short walk from our hotel and we discovered it by chance but enjoyed it so much we went back every night of our 7 night stay. The atmosphere is...very relaxed, as a family run business, and the setting in the family garden is enchanting . The guitarist played a selection of local Lanna and Thai and international songs , the food was freshly cooked with huge portions, and the staff were very attentive.More

The whole foods was like eating at some cheap local eateries except they charged high-end restaurant prices - almost unattended after being seated.

Heard great things about this restuarant so thought we would try it. The setting was really nice in a garden but there were lots of bugs that were annoying. The staff didn't speak any English but we managed to order (there is English translation on...the menus). They have an extremely limited drink menu, but extensive food menu. The food came quickly but was very disappointing, we didn't even finish it as it was not enjoyable at all.More

We heard this was a great place to eat but we did not like it at all. Someone said they had changed cooks so maybe that was it. Not sure.

We went here after seeing good reviews on Tripadvisor and weren't disappointed. The place is easy to find, not too far from the clocktower. The setting is, for some a bit random, for others a nice lush garden in the middle of the city :)...They have definitely gone a bit nuts with cartoon characters and greenery. But nothing to complain about. Staff are quite nice although not everyone spoke English. We did struggle with trying to order a "soup with no meat", as we got served with Tom Yum Goong (i.e with prawns) in the end. Don't think it's a good place for vegetarians btw. But overall food was very good and not too pricey (from HK standards!) This was my first taste of the Chiang Mai/Rai sausage and it was great (I probably had it 5 times afterwards lol), very nice with lemongrass flavour. Nice live music, not too loud, bunch of old English songs. Worth a visit for sure.More

Place was cute. Food was great. Take note food portion is big here. A dish can easily serve 4 persons. Papaya salad was gorgeous.

This is a lovely establishment just a turn off the main road. It's been well-tendered into a sort of mini-jungle, and the decor gives off a very chilled and relaxed vibe. Some of that definitely comes across in the service, which is a tad slower...than other eateries we've been to in Northern Thailand - though not to an unacceptable degree. The food was excellent; we ordered a recommended steamed fish in coconut curry, a mango salad and a red curry with pork, all of which was delicious (the fish, in particular, was sublime). The size of the main dishes were big - we ordered 2 mains and 1 side for two, and swear there was enough curry to feed a whole family - though the rice portions, in comparison, were quite small and expensive (25 bahts per dish; if two people or above it may be worth ordering the large bowl option for 85 bahts). The setup overall was moderately priced, and we wouldn't call this a budget eatery (the price per main dish is about 160-250 baht). The main challenge with Moommai is that its staff aren't English-proficient, so we had to rely on quite a bit of hand gesturing and pointing at menus (which do have excellent English translations) to get us through the meal. That said, the staff are friendly, warm and keen to help, and we left with the impression that this is a welcoming, family-run establishment that gives an authentic Northern Thai dining experience.More

Foods were delicious but beyond mid-range level, not cheap at all. I think kids would love their decoration more.

The food here is wonderful. I ate every meal here once I discovered it. This restaurant has some of the most amazing decor that I have come across so far. Many of the tables are in small garden settings which affords a lot of privacy,...and creates an intimate feeling. There is live music in the evening, and staff are very responsive.More
