What an amazing restaurant, beautiful setting, lovely staff, and amazing food. The food was delicious, Thai food we'd never eaten before, the flavours set our taste buds on alight. We are definitely coming back, the best Thai food we've eaten in years. A definite 10 out of 10

Naidol Makham Thao has cemented itself as one of Rayong's favourite restaurants for Thai food, particularly the distinctive cuisine of E-san, the north eastern provinces of Thailand. It has multiple kitchens dedicated to salads, deep frying, stir frying, and so on, so service is always prompt. Tonight we had crispy fried fish pieces, pig liver larb, sunflower seedlings with crispy pork, crispy fried soft shell crab, and a bitter vegetable, fish and prawn soup. When I say the soup was bitter, it was not unpleasantly so, and in fact that is the way this type of soup should be presented. The soup was a nice balance against the deep fried dishes. The bill for the three of us, with rice, water and ice, was a very modest Baht 520.

Once again Naidol Makham Thao came to the rescue when six friends from Esan visited us and we had to decide where to take them for dinner. Eight of us ate a spicy seafood salad, crispy fried small pieces of fish with dipping sauces, crispy fried chicken wings, prawns and glass noodles in a clay pot, and steamed sea bass with fresh vegetables and cold rice noodles. As always, the service was very quick and professional, because Naidol has several kitchens, each specialising in either deep frying, stir frying, Thai salads, or cooked wet dishes. The total bill was a modest Baht 840.

We dine out at least once a week and there are thousands of restaurants in Rayong. But sooner or later we always end up back at Naidol Makham Thao. Why? Because it serves authentic Thai food professionally cooked, quickly served, and at very affordable prices. Which is why it is one of the most popular restaurants for locals. Four of us had a spicy soup of unlaid hen's eggs with intestines (sounds horrible, but you should try it); braised duck breast with pickled cabbage; spicy minced pork Isan style; deep fried river fish; and a smashed bean salad with chicken "knees". With a bottle of Leo beer, a large bottle of water, and two Thai deserts, the bill was THB 540. It was an inexpensive night out.

It is several months since we last had dinner at this ever-popular Thai restaurant and we noticed many changes. First, there has been a big staff turnover, and second the central area of the restaurant has been refurbished with new and matching tables and chairs. There are also many changes on the menu. The two of us had deep fried crab rolls, which came with a sweet dipping sauce, and a small side dish of chopped cucumber, onion and chili. Then a pork curry with beans. It was reminiscent of Thai "jungle" curries, with a slightly rough taste, but delicious all the same. The salad comprised prawns, beans, coral fungus, onions and chilis, but was not overly spicy. The disappointment was the fried liver with garlic, which was so overcooked it resembled old shoe leather and had little taste other than the remnants of the garlic. With steams rice, a Leo beer and a soft drink the bill was THB 490, which still represents excellent value for money, despite the shortcomings of the liver dish.

It is many months since we visited Naidol Makahm Thao, one of the most popular restaurants in Rayong. We didn't recognize any of the previous waitstaff, and there seemed to be a 100 percent turnover. But the welcome was a warm as always and the service and food up to the old standard. We always pick the smaller entree size dishes rather than the larger dishes, which gives us a wider range of food. We had small pieces of crispy fried fish, stir fried mixed vegetables (not over cooked by request), deep fried chicken wings, duck larp, and rice. With two bottle of Leo beer the bill was a very modest Baht 620.

Came here based on Trip Advisor reviews. It did not disappoint. The restaurant is very busy and popular with the locals. Some English was spoken and a menu was brought on a MacBook with pictures, no barriers there. I had Laab Moo Tot (Laab pork fried, like a meatball) and Koh Moo Yang (grilled Pork Neck). Both were absolutely delicious, the pork neck was tender and the Laab Moo Tot was perfect. Total cost including a bottle of Coke was 195 baht, very inexpensive. Highly recommended, will definitely be returning. Note that this restaurant is on a one way street and parking can be limited if coming by car. A friendly parking attendant will help you park you car in the tighter spots.

It is some months since I dined at Naidol Makham Thao, so it was interesting to see that it is even more popular with locals than before. But this is not a restaurant where you linger over a long meal. You place your order, the food is delivered pronto, you eat and leave. It is not unusual for the tables to be turned over three or four times in the one night, with people waiting for others to leave so they can claim a seat. This high turnover is the secret to Naidol Makham Thao's success. Its kitchen has separate cooking stations for stir fried, deep fried, steamed and barbecued, so your orders are quickly prepared and delivered That, and the fact that this is authentic Thai food at very cheap prices. We had tom yum talay, a sour and spicy soup with seafood; pla salit, small sun dried fish that are deep fried till they are so crispy you eat the bones and all; duck curry "jungle style", which meant it was fiery hot and spicy; crispy prawn cakes; and what we call "chicken knees", but which in fact are the cartilage from chicken legs, deep fried until they are crispy. With a bowl of rice, a large bottle of Pepsi, ice and water the bill for the four of us came to a very reasonable Baht 500

Located between Sukhumvit and Ratbamruang Roads in a small street, this large open-air restaurant is very popular with locals and serves best Thai food at reasonable prices.

We asked at our hotel for a good local restaurant and this was his top tip. We ate here and had a very pleasant experience, the place is always busy, always a good sign, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu is extensive and has English descriptions as well as Thai, the prices are very reasonable for food and drink. The restaurant is located on the main road through Rayong, next door to Rayong City hotel and the Kameo Grand, so it easily found.

This was next door to our hotel and it was packed, we waited for a seat and glad we did. We ordered too many dishes, the battered prawns were huge and generous and 100 baht - crazy. Big beers for 65 baht - nice to be back in Thailand! We enjoyed all our dishes, the only disappointment is they were not open the second night when we returned. Next time!

This is one of the most popular restaurants in Rayong and by early evening it is packed. But service is fast and tables turnover quickly, so you will not have to wait long for a seat. Prices are very reasonable. Last time I was there five of us ate dinner for Baht 450. Try the spicy and sour seafood soup with lashings of fresh fish and prawns, the crispy fried catfish with cashew nuts or the exotic and fiery hot wild boar in a jungle curry. You can check out Naidol at "Facebook Naidol".
