About
The Reaching Out Teahouse, a social enterprise, was created to share authentic Hoi An (which means peaceful meeting) through the tradition of drinking tea and coffee with friends and visitors. Tranquility is assured in our ancient house furnished with antiques. Our servers are all speech and hearing impaired and the joy of silence is reflected throughout the experience. Customers enjoy the high quality of our teas and coffees as well as the gracious service. All of our tableware is handcrafted in the style of the imperial families of Hue and is available at our workshop and retail store behind the teahouse. Fairtrade operating principles ensure that our disabled artisans and servers receive fair wages and work under safe conditions. We invite you to experience our teahouse and to let us know about your experience. We learn to make improvements to our products and services through customer feedback.

Returning to Hoi An after three years of Covid disruption and so many businesses failing in areas that depend on tourism, the first thing I checked was the the delightful Reaching Out Tea House was still continuing its good work.
We enjoyed tea here every other day during our 14 day stay and it was a highlight of those days.
The Tea House is exquisite, a traditional building maintained in authentic style, just enough wear to validate its venerable age whilst maintaining its polished and well kept beauty.
This a place of stillness and quiet in the bustle of Hoi An.
The service is gracious, the tea sets beautifully crafted and laid, the garden serene and timeless. In such a perfect setting the only remaining element is the tea and that too is superb, high quality teas from within Viet Nam served as they should be in a setting where they can be fully appreciated. Everything about this lovely place is pleasing, the calm, the grace, the peace, the shear loveliness is so rare, it is to be treasured.
On the first day we broached again the need for a “fair cup” and from then on one arrived with our tea on each occasion, we were remembered, valued and indulged.
Sitting, ever hopeful, under the carambola tree I was gifted by the tree with a windfall of starfruit which I savoured, warm, sweet and dropped at perfect ripeness. The ladies in the tea room seemed quite aggrieved that I had eaten fruit from the ground and promptly scaled the tree for further fruit which they washed, sliced and presented to me on a plate. A lovely and unexpected gesture which I greatly appreciated.
I love this place and I am left non plussed by the (few) reviews that complain about the price, it is rather like complaining that a fine, single estate, first flush tea is too expensive compared to the dust and fannings in supermarket tea bags, or that the Ritz is overpriced compared with McDonalds, it makes no sense. Here is elegance, refinement, quality and charm to be savoured and appreciated.
In the workshop behind the garden, lovely artefacts are displayed for sale and one can watch the craftsmen practicing their skills, finishing the fine ceramics as used in service in the tea room and other local offerings, whilst upstairs the delectable treats that accompany each service are hand made freshly each day and the sweet aroma of confectionary drift into garden below.
Thank you for providing such an almost surreal oasis of refreshment and reflection in such a busy place.

What a wonderful, tranquil experience. Stepping off the busy tourist streets of Hoi An Ancient Town into Reaching Out Tea House was such a blessing. The service was impeccable, beautiful serving ware for the most delicious cookies, treats and coffee. Selecting options with use of the checklist, word blocks and note pad worked well. I was able to easily ask about vegan options without needing to speak. A wonderful, peaceful experience. Our favourite place in Hoi An.

Quiet cafe with a very nice atmosphere. An oasis of silence in Hoi An Old Town. The freshly brewed coffee also tasted very good. This café and the project behind it support people with disabilities who also find a job here.

We love all the aspects of this establishment! The shop has extremely high quality crafts that are all made by alterabled individuals. I always shop here and have never been disappointed with the quality of my items and the helpfulness of the staff. We also enjoyed attending a very well taught lantern making class. The instructor spoke excellent English, was funny and demonstrated the steps with video and hands on instruction. She was helped by very competent assistants who ensured that everyone had a successful experience. Afterwards we enjoyed tea and cookies that displayed the breadth and variety of items served in the tea shop

Reaching Out Tea House was a perfect afternoon spot for coffee and tea. They have a wonderful mission and purpose, the atmosphere is quiet, cookies are delicious and they have a store in the back that sells items from local artisans. Highly recommend a visit!

A must visit whilst in Hoi An! A quiet sanctuary of the bustling streets of the old town. The tearooms are home to people with visual and hearing impairment. For this reason, it is a silent space and you communicate with gestures and written words. The teas and coffees were authentic and tasted amazing. The cookies were nothing like I've ever tasted before - subtle and fresh taste.

This is a fantastic place. We visited as part of a tour, our tour organiser supports charities along our tour through Vietnam and Cambodia. It is staffed by disabled local people, it is a coffee/tea shop and craft shop. All of the craft items are made in house by the disabled staff and are fantastic quality and value. We also attended a lantern making class, again a fabulous experience and tuition by lovely staff. It won’t surprise you that we bought some of the items they were selling, it isn’t travel tat - but items we will enjoy for years to come. We enjoyed our initial experience so much that we returned the following day for coffee. It was a great experience and good to support them.

This is such a lovely tea house and a peaceful step back from the busy Hoi An streets. All the staff in the tea house are deaf (hope I’m right in saying that!) so you have to communicate with wooden blocks that have words on. The tea and cookies (we ordered green and jasmine tea then chocolate, passion fruit and coconut cookies) were delicious. There is also a nice handicraft shop at the back which contains so many lovely tea sets and bags of coffee and tea. Please do visit!

There's something truly special about stepping into the silence when you're in a town as busy and chaotic as Hoi An. You just feel your shoulders instantly un-clench and you breathe a little easier - and that's before you've ordered your first cup of tea and biscuits.
The Reaching Out Teahouse is not only a wonderful social enterprise, but it's also a genuinely great teahouse. The staff are attentive and friendly, the tea is delightful, and their cookies are to die for! I definitely recommend trying the passion cookies and the things that look like pasta noodles.
The small store behind the tea house is also a great place to buy gifts and souvenirs for friends back home.

This Tea house is a wonderful reprieve from Hoi An action….it is a quiet space for reflection and just sitting and enjoying a nice cup of coffee or tea with a variety of homemade treats and cookies to choose from. The selections of coffee and tea are impressive. All come from the mountains of Vietnam where they are grown and harvested by people with different abilities. The wait staff are Deaf.
Everything served on are made by the artists with disabilities (including cups and dishes they are served on) some you will find working in the small workshop in the back of the house where the shop is, it is open from 9-5. Particularly beautiful are the silver and brass jewelry and the hand pounded brass work done on the cups and tea and coffee strainers. If you would like to support a great business and buy some beautiful unique crafts, don’t miss this place and don’t forget to go upstairs.
Staff are gracious and aim to serve you well. Don’t miss this place!

I loved my time at this tea house. And I loved the ethos of the business in supporting those with hearing and or speech impairments by employing them as staff. The tasting sets were exquisite and the traditional Vietnamese snacks bought me back to my childhood. Please do come if you’re in Hoi An. They also have a gift shop at the back with wonderful handcrafted items too!

This is probably my favourite place in Hoi An. I really don’t want to share my secret but I thought those hard working people deserve more business.
The tea house is ran by people with hearing issues. You communicate sure the staff with some chops they provided. The teas are very good quality and price is reasonable. I first discovered this tea house 7-8 years ago when I first visited Hoi An and this time I spent few quiet hours a day here just to relax and watch the world go by.
At the back of the tea house there is also a tiny shop that sells very authentic pieces of house decorations like candle holders.

Possibly one of the best experiences I have ever taken. Beautiful building and the most delightful and sweetest staff.
Please read the rules on talking quietly and not encouraging the street vendors. Sadly someone failed to understand this whilst we were there.
The concept on this establishment is to support the staff who have various disabilities including deafness.
We left feeling very humbled and felt honoured to have found a seat.
They also have a beautiful staff gift shop which has handmade items.
Please visit, be respectful and leave a generous tip.

We were on a cafe tour of Old Town and stumbled upon this peaceful place. There were noisy tourists outside but inside was great. We had beautiful plates, cups, trays, which emphasized the delicious taste of the teas we chose. In a very busy part of town, but it's a great cause!

A serene gem in old town Hoi An. A delightful experience in silence , watching the hustle and bustle of people outside. A new experience for me to sit and watch the silent processes. The tea and coffee pots are gorgeous and the staff are so gentle and welcoming. Beautiful ceramics in the adjoining section. More than a Teahouse - they are a social enterprise. The founders help persons with disability (PWD) become integrated into society, empowering them to lead productive lives. Â
