What a warm welcome we had to this small, cosy restaurant. The lady who serves is so chatty that we had a great time. Tasty food too.

The best food I had so far in my stay in Japan - owned by a couple who are passionate about cooking and making sure you enjoy. Vegan, Vegetarian and non-Veg options available. Food is so tasty and we enjoyed it with Sake, home made...Umeshu and Jasmine tea to top the paletteMore

If you choose one place to eat in Takayama, this is it. The service and friendliness of the owners and each delicious and unique dish set it apart from other restaurants. From the moment we stepped into the cozy restaurant we were greeted with such...warmth. The restaurant was fun to be in with so many interesting items on display. The menu had many options to please vegans, vegetarians and non-vegetarians. We opted for the 2 person meal set which came with appetizer, salad, soup, plus 2 main dishes of our choice and fried rice, finished by a flavorful Almond dessert and roobios tea. We found all the dishes to be delicious. The Umeshu plum wine was homemade along with some other condiments. So nice!!! I’m always looking for the vegan and vegetarian friendly restaurants in Japan. I found great one!More

This was my first time in Japan as a vegan (extremely challenging!!) I was influenced by many blogs to check out Heianraku, as they had multiple vegan options and easy to read menus. We were kindly greeted and seated, the owners were so lovely our...entire meal! They recommended some popular dishes to try, told me about how the dish was her father's favourite, provided us with little desserts (the sesame pudding was AMAZING!!) and had a book of all the places their tourists are from. The food was amazing, but I would visit Takayama again just to see the couple and bring them a gift from my country of Canada! (She mentioned she has never left Takayama)More

Believe the reviews. This was absolutely delicious and the hosts were so accommodating and friendly. We got lucky as we just happened to walk past and saw the signs. Didn't know about it previously but after looking at the reviews online decided to go ahead...and make a reservation. No regrets! Do yourself a favour and visit this place.More

From the moment we entered the restaurant on our first night in Takayama we were hooked. The couple that run the place, Hiroshi does the cooking, are such great hosts. We tried the set dinner with 2 choices and really loved everything included in the...meal. For us it was the best meal we had while in Japan. Go, have a great meal, try the sake tasting and enjoy chatting with your hosts.More

Wow! What an amazing experience! We came to Heianraku praying we could get a 4 seats as I have 2 children plus a husband and we did! The food was incredible but the service was beyond outstanding, my children had the best time learning how...to make origami Kaeru while having biscuits and tea. We left with so much love in our hearts for the owners that my children want to go back every night. I highly recommend to everyone!!!More

We really loved it at Heianraku, our wonderful hosts made us feel at home and very welcome. We ordered the dinner set for 2, and we're glad we did so we could try a few different dishes. They use local produce in the meals and...everything is made with love. I highly recommend the pork meatballs and the home made umeshu! We had a lovely conversation with our hosts and would definitely come back again.More
