We were recommended to try the sushi in Otaru and we weren’t disappointed. We booked using a booking app two places for lunch at the counter at Isezushi. We had the omakase menu. Our chef spoke a little English and could describe the sushi. Our...meal includes 16 pieces of sushi which was served in 50 minutes! The meal was good in that the portions were not too large so we did not feel too heavy after the meal. The sushi was very fresh. The price was also much cheaper than an equivalent meal in Tokyo. Worth trying if you are in Otaru but book counter seats.More
There are many sushi restaurants in Otaru, but here is truly extraordinary. If you love sushi and if you will visit this city, you should drop in this restaurant. Otherwise you will be sorry for it later. In this restaurant, depending on the situation, you...can have a seat at the table or at the chef’s table. Of course, you can order one by one, but I recommend some Omakase meals (a type of meal consisting of dishes selected by the chef) because you can enjoy seasonal specialty. Don't forget reservation in advance ! For your information, there is anothe Isezushi in Oratu train station named 'Isezushi Otaru Station Branch'. This is a stand-and-eat sushi bar. **************************************************More
The sushi was very good! We had the nigiri set which came with 16 pieces of sushi. It was actually a very large and complete meal by itself. In hindsight we should not had order the additional starters dishes which 1. was too much food...and we were struggling to finish the last few pieces of sushi? 2. The starter dishes was very good too and I believe they distraught the taste buds and lessen the appreciation of the sushi set. It was a very popular restaurants and they were trying to maximize the turnaround. As such service was slightly rush. Staff spoke good English. It was a very good meal but it would have been an excellent one if we had only focus on the sushi and taken time to appreicate them at a slower pace.More
We ordered the ¥6,300 Jun omakase set. It comes with 17 different types of sushi and rolls. There are snow crab, uni, scallop, chutoro, herring, snapper, squid, salmon roe, cod roe and razor clams, etc. All very nice and aged beautifully. We will definitely visit...again if we are back to Otaru! Highly recommended!More
We booked one month in advance for dinner but can only get lunch seating at counter. The décor and seating was comfortable and airy for this Michelin star restaurant. The chef was friendly and speaks some English. During lunch one can order sushi by piece...or set or omakase. We tried omakase and also set. It turn out to be several thousand yen on average for each person. The quality of the fish was good and fresh of course. I think it is worth revisiting for dinner for the more expensive and higher quality sushi. Lunch of course is value for money.More
Fresh fish and shellfish sushi served with a great environment. Local Otaru beer was great. Every piece was exceptional.
Great expectations since it was recommended by a very reliable friend. While the fish was alright the rice was very disappointing. Cold and hard as if it was overnight rice. I suspect this was made by the kitchen and no QC was done. Maybe restaurant...thought they could get away with it since we were foreigners. I rate our meal lower than that of Kaiten sushi. Felt really cheated since we structured our Otaru tour to include this meal.More
Visited Isezushi with an advanced booking of a few months . Matching price and quality, premium sushi was served and priced reasonably. Would have gone there again if booking is not a problem
This Sushi restaurant offers fine Sushi course at affordable price. This place was listed on micheline restaurant guide book a few years ago. very popular Sushi place in Otaru. You must make reservation before you come to Otaru.
We booked this restaurant a month before our visit because my brother advised us. In fact, we visited here for lunch on weekdays, but all tables are reserved. Some reviewers weren't satisfied with the staff's attitude and service, but they are nice and explain about sushi...kindly in my case. Sushi is good quality so you have to try!More
When I did research for my trip to Otaru, I found out Isezushi was (and I guess still is) the most highly rated sushiya there at the authoritative foodie website Tabelog. I very much looked forward to my dinner there and my expectations were met....Both my friend and I ordered menu Jun which consisted of 16 pieces of sushi. Sushi master Nakamura-san didn't do much (like smoked or aged) with his fish or other ingredients. But most pieces were exquisite and delicious simply because he picked the freshest ingredients. The highlights were chutoro, uni, scallop and snow crab. In addition, we ordered some extra pieces a la carte. The otoro literally melted in my mouth and the anago was particularly flavourful and sweet. The dinner was nicely paced. Nakamura-san interacted with us from time to time to make our meal more interesting. With a lot of food and 3 bottles of small sake, the bill was less than 21,000 which was very good value money. Try Isezushi and request for counter seats. You won't be disappointed. It's one of the most popular restaurants in Otaru so you need to book well ahead. I booked through the concierge of JR Tower Hotel Nikko Sapporo about 2 months before my meal.More
Being a Michelin 2 star restaurant with several positive reviews stacked in its favour, the food at Isezushi was completely disappointing and not worth the hype. The fish on the sushi was poorly cut and incredibly dry! The seaweed was also chewy, making it obvious...that the sushi was not freshly made and was left out for a while before being served to customers. The sea urchin (Uni) was darkened to a dark grey colour and almost black in colour, despite all of the Uni that I've previously eaten being orange in colour. After eating the fishy tasting Uni, I had contracted a stomach ache that night. Even our Japanese Friend did not eat anything and suggested that we paid the bill and left. In addition to this, the restaurant atmosphere seemed very commercialised and inauthentic, as we were told that we only had a limited time to eat and leave. Overall, after driving 2 hours to eat there, it was an incredibly disappointing experience and I definitely do not recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good sushi.More
Get there at around 4:00pm for some afternoon eating. The resturant is not open until 5:00 pm, make a reservstion for 5 because latet hours were fully booked. Enjoyed an early dinner there. Good food, fish are fresh, I enjoy very much!
This sushi restaurant is the most famous sushi restaurant in Otaru, I think. Indeed, some of materials such as Nishin, Murasaki Uni and Hokkigai are top quality which cannot be found in Tokyo or Osaka. On the other hand, the total experience here is not...so brilliant as I expected before my visit.More
