This popular local fair is a bit pricy in this tourist area. I decided to order a half size order for lunch and had a choice of eel from Taiwan ($2500) or eel from Japanese waters ($300). I personally couldn’t tell you the difference between...the two nor do I believe that eel caught in Japanese waters is especially superior. Service was great. English menu available.More

Stopped by for dinner on a Thursday night and there was no wait. Walked right in and were greeted by warm and friendly English speaking staff. We LOVE eel and were excited to eat at a restaurant that features it. We ordered the Japanese eel...half order which came with tea, rice, soup, and Japanese pickles. The eel was amazing and we felt the prices were super reasonable for the quality of food. This place is over 100 years old and if you love eel, put this place on your itinerary!More

It’s an ancient-looking little restaurant in the loveliest street of Narita (a nice town that would deserve more attention). The atmosphere is very romantic, the staff, unusually for Japan, speak good English. I ordered the eel, famous local specialty, with rice and miso and I...added vegetable tempura. It was all delicious and well presented. Complimentary tea was unlimited. The service was fast and accurate, the price reasonable. They accept credit cards. To try.More

Was planning on coming here for a good meal when I had a layover in Narita. In addition to being conveniently close to Naritasan temple, this place oozes traditional atmosphere and is cozily comfortable at the same time. Right outside and next door there were...chefs who were preparing unagi as well (not for those who are easily queasy). The unagi don was deliciously simple yet satisfying. The eel was soft and fresh and the flavors was good. Cost was a bit on the pricier side than I expected, but I am happy to have stopped here for an authentic traditional unagi don while in JapanMore

This is a traditional eatery that has been in business for literally hundreds of years. It's a simple menu but done to perfection and with care. You can taste the beautiful unagi and the wonderful tare that is on the fish. There are different price...tiering for domestic unagi versus ones from Taiwan so take note. Recently there has been a lack of domestic unagi so the prices have soared. I opted for the double decker since I only get to eat unagi every so often and Kikuya's unagi did was absolutely splendid. The eel was meaty, fatty, succulent and wonderful. Knowing the care the chefs take in perfectly grilling the fish over coals imparts a great smoky flavor to the fish and paired with the centuries old sauce over rice, it is just a joy to put in your mouth. Make the side trip to the real Narita and enjoy this beautiful, old, traditional restaurant.More

We were passing through Narita, having come to see the huge temple on our way to Tokyo, when hunger struck and we needed a light lunch to get us on our way. This very old restaurant was delightful, and the food was well-prepared and delicious....The staff were outstanding. Will come back next trip... thank you!More

Our friend recommit to come to this award and century (200ish year) eel rice restaurant For a bowl of rice and soup, 2800 yen is not cheap but it's worth the taste

We were in Narita for a day trip and dropped into this restaurant. The service was great and they accept credit cards (unlike many other places). The unagi don was great, but the sushimi plate was disappointing.

The shopping street stores mostly close by 5pm but this restaurant remained open til 9pm. Good for those who want to grab a dinner closer to 7-8pm. The crew speak excellent english and are friendly and helpful. The unagi is the specialty and sashimi was...good. Same could not be said of the tempura which I'd rate a 6/10. Nonetheless a good place to settle for a meal if you are in the vicinity.More

During an evening layover in Narita, family drove in from Tokyo and picked us up to visit the Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. Along the Omotesando, the sinuous path to the temple grounds, this restaurant was one of very few that was still open in the late...evening -- and a welcomed respite of warmth from the January cold air, especially for the two of us from Hawaii. Although this eatery is known for its unagi (eel), we ordered the tempura dishes and were not disappointed. It was probably the best tempura we've eaten. The vegetables were lightly battered and deep fried to scrumptious perfection. We definitely plan to stop here again in our future travels.More
