This is a great place to have your steamboat dinner. The environment is peaceful and quiet unlike most of the other steamboat restaurants around the area. It's not a buffet BUT ALL ITEMS are refillable. Meat varieties : Chicken, ShabuShabu Beef, Fish, Prawn, and assortment...of meat balls... Plenty of vegetables. Service was fantastic despite only 1 - 2 person serving 5 tables. A big shout out to Himal who is always asking if we need anything else and offering free photographer services...More

This restaurant used to be nice but now visiting again after covid-19 the quality has really gone down. There used to be a buffet with wide variety of different items. Now you just get a few veggies, store bought noodles, chicken, fish, shrimp and beef...that is really low quality (tiny slices with lots of fat). Dessert is one, about 8cm long pandan roll and a few small slices of strawberries. But the worst of all, and this is just pure laziness from the chef, they dont serve proper sauce for a hot pot. Instead, they give you Thai sweet chili sauce, soy sauce with cut chili and garlic. Charging over RM400 for 4 adults does not match with the quality. The only reason why I am not giving 1 star is because the service was still good.More

It was our first experience of Steamboat together so we were excited to try. The price was very reasonable (90RM per pax) which included meat, seafood and lots of veggies plus a choice of 2 broths from 3 options. The Tom Yum and Veggie broth...were both tasty and the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. There was no music, which is a shame as it would have added some ambience. The “open” nature of the restaurant means it gets very very cold, so a sweater or jacket is necessary. My only criticism is that I would have liked the staff to ask if it was our first time having steamboat and to explain a bit/show us what to do. We asked a few different passing waiters about things as we ate but no one was particularly helpful or seemed too keen to say much other than “steamboat is easy”. Overall an enjoyable first steamboat experience!More

Good steamboat environment. Inclusive and quiet You can have very relax way of steamboat with good quality of vegetables. Just a bit pricy for the vegetables of RM70 per pax exclude meat.

This was our (family of six) first visit to Gonbei for a steamboat dinner. We previously stayed at Cameron Highlands Resorts nearly a decade ago, happy to report that the interior and furnishing remains as tasteful and elegant but as ever. The restaurant is a...more contemporary and modern extension of the second floor, comprising of an open-air dining area facing the forest. We were blessed with cool, not overtly chilly temperature, with no insects intruding on our dinner. Ravi was our waiter for the evening and he was instrumental in making our experience one of the highlights of our trip. He was meticulous, sincere and friendly whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism. He detailed the extensive meat + seafood menu for us, which came with a selection of beverages including wines, which he also took time to carefully explain. Servings were generous (we are by no means small eaters), meats were of good quality and the fresh vegetable produce was fantastic. There is also a live grill station with barbecued food to supplement your meal, but we were too full so we passed on that. Seafood was decent, but fish was a little underwhelming - tasted somewhat bland and like it had been frozen. But still, this is understandable given that we are on a mountaintop without any easy access to the coast. Hossan was lovely and attentive and well, and the manager, Ong, came over to check on our meal and was extremely friendly and warm and engaging. All in all, couldn't be more pleased with our experience here. Kudos again to Ravi, Hossan and Ong, will definitely be back on our next visit to Cameron Highlands.More

The steam boat at Gonbei is a great way to try your hand at cooking your own Malaysian and Chinese noodle broths. After choosing your broth, the meat or mixed (meat and seafood) platter, and a range of veggies, you are guided by the friendly...staff in loading it all into your personal steam boat. The flavours become more intense as the ingredients simmer and portion sizes are huge for the price. Once done with the broth, a selection of delicious desserts is available to round off the evening on a sweet note. Very highly recommended at a classy and relaxing venue.More

If you are a tourist who has never had a steamboat, this is the place for you. They will help...you every step of the way and the ingredients are all top quality. If a foodie, same due to quality of produce. Pricey but worth every penny!More

Gonbei is a lovely restaurant that can be found at the hotel that is right across from the golf course. Its luxurious and the food is fantastic, but the prices are higher than most other hotpot places on Cameron Highlands. That being said, I personally...found the prices to be perfectly reasonable for what you are getting. the food is amazing. I paid about RM110 per person for the more expensive option available, the mixed platter. The meats are sold by the platter, but the vegetables, carbs, sides and desserts are all free flow buffet style. The meat is more than sufficient and the soup stock is flavourful even without cooking anything in it. The staff are delightful and attentive, and the ambiance is lovely. Would definitely recommend if you want to treat yourself, but do try and call to get a reservation, or do what we do and come at 845pm :PMore

We picked 2 soup stocks, chicken & Japanese (with miso). The chicken stock was good, but the latter was quite bland. I think the kitchen staff might have gotten used to houseflies swarming over the freshly cut meat/seafood cos I was standing there trying to...fan off the flies, and they seemed quite nonchalant about it. Sad to say the flies were on the meat/seafood.. However, the most impressive part of the evening was Hossein who attended to us. In fact, all the wait staff were very attentive.More

We can recommend this Steam Boat restaurant especially if you, like us, don’t have much/any experience eating in this way. The result was delicious food cooked by us at our table. We were given useful advice by our waiter who really helped us to choose...the right sauces and ingredientsMore

If I recall correctly, it was Ringgit Malaysia about 188 per person for the steamboat with meat. The one without meat is slightly cheaper. Exclude alcohol.
