We had dinner at 1985 which is one of the restaurants in the E&O. The food was delicious but my family thought the portions where too small.

On my last day in MY before heading back to Oz I treated myself - hang on - all of this 3 week adventure has been a total treat and in so many ways... to afternoon tea at the Eastern & Oriental hotel in George Town. A lovely three tier cake/nibbles stand accompanied a pot of English Breakfast tea plus... More

Had high tea here. Wonderful setting in a quiet and historic restaurant. The food was delicious and plentiful. I didn't eat everything as I was so full. Enjoyed the tuna sandwich surrounded by cucumber. There is a wide choice of teas to choose from and they will top your teapot up with hot water when you ask. The staff were... More

We loved this. A superb selection of sandwiches, a fantastic selection of tea - we had Assam which was perfect - and beautiful cakes. The cakes were the highpoint for me. There must have been at least 5 different types - all of which were exquisite. The only disappointment for me was the cream tea scones: scones themselves were excellent,... More

We had a satisfactory meal on New Year's Eve but for 550 RM it was a little too expensive for two considering its quality. We had a much better meal at the Macalister Mansion if you wish to spend the same amount for dinner. Macalister Mansion was magnificent!!

Christmas Lunch followed by New Year's Eve Dinner. I am almost speechless in trying to describe the most delicious food, brilliant service, and perfect wine matching. Sensational in every way. When in Penang be sure to book this restaurant.

Had dinner here & the restaurant was plush & grand. Service was good but we felt the menu could have been longer and more exciting. We considered it to be a 'safe' menu but could have been improved with the addition of a few more items. The only lamb item was lamb shank, but a restaurant of this caliber might... More

1885 is a fine dine restaurant in Eastern & Oriental Hotel. We got a complimentary dinner included in our honeymoon package. The ambience and food were great, on par with other European fine dinings. However, the service could have been a little better as I had to wave my hand to the waiter every time my water glass is empty.... More

Came here twice during our hotel stay for high-tea. The high-tea set comes with finger sandwiches, savoury puffs, the usual scones with jam and clotted cream and a dessert platter with brownies, macaroons, panna cotta and cakes. They have a wide variety of tea for your selection to pair with the cakes and scones. The food was great and the... More

We had high tea here. A chance to dress up a little and enjoy an amazing afternoon tea. The cakes and pastries made on site were quite different, scones delicious and the jam was just perfect. I was a bit shocked at the price however. I've paid a lot more and received a lot less! Great value and well worth... More
