We visited Penang to ostensibly try local food and part of the visit, partook the famous nasi kandar in 6 different restaurants across the island. Kassim Mustapha was the first in the foodie tour just after we arrived in Penang. I had the beef in black gravy, squid egg curry, salted egg, ladies' fingers and green chilli. While the food was good, I felt underwhelmed and this personal opinion about Kassim Mustapha was further entrenched after visiting 5 more nasi kandar restaurants. In the end Kassim Mustapha was ranked second last in my list.

I went with my family. It was the best nasi kandaq so far. I love it. My husband loved it too. So tasty. The dalca is the best! Will come here again for sure!

Underrated as compared to its Deen Maju or Line Clear counterparts, this restaurant serves FANTASTIC Nasi Kandar at reasonable prices and with NO LONG QUEUES (I'm looking at you, Deen Maju). The curries are thick and spiced enough, the variety of vegetables decent. No stupid watery curries that when poured onto the rice just ends up being a watery mess. The roti canai is also served with the same curries served with the nasi kandar, which earns this place extra extra points for being extraordinary. Shame about its tosai though. Too sour and too soft for my liking.

I chose this place for the low prices on the menu. I ordered some rice, a piece of chicken, and a tiny piece of lamb. That's it. The waiter charged me 19,5 MYR. I paid and left, but I know perfectly well that he overcharged me, I should have paid half of that. They think they make extra money when they scamm a tourist, but they don't understand that bad reviews keep the customers away. So I hope this review will prevent others to get scammed at this place.

I didn’t enjoy so much. I went there like 2 or 3 times alone or with friends. The chicken tandoori can be kind of dry but the taste is quite good, ok portion. The garlic naan is quite dry even if the red buttery sauce is good to dip the naan into but the portion of the sauce is a bit small. The teh tarik is ok. To me, the atmosphere is average even if the place is very spacey with fans but in a very noisy environment because of the traffic jam in Chulia street, you have to shout sometimes to order and they don’t like you shout. Some effort is done however in the decoration which is coloured Cleanliness when I went there seemed to be very average. It was dirty on the ground. When did they wash the last time? The food choice is average.I don’t think the menu is very clear and when you ask explanations they don’t answer as they don’t speak good English. Finally I still don’t know what is the garlic cheese naan set, the difference if you take this or the naan separated with the tandoori chicken. You can also not see clearly the price of the teh tarik, it is not clearly mentioned on the menu. According to me, they are not very helpful and careful even if they are smiley. They are friendly as long as you ask no question. However I was served quite quick but it seems that also giving me the menu was bothering for them. I didn’t feel very at ease The food quantity is very good and the value for money average even if the prices are cheap. Even if the food is quite ok the chicken tandoori and naan cheaper than many places, the service is not that good Maybe it is a bit cheaper than Kapitan located just in front but they can be a bit rude to you. Noisy environment also with the traffic jam. The good point is that they are open like 24 hours Would you go back there? I wouldn’t go back alone because I think there are better places to eat elsewhere but f my Malay friends want to go there I will accompany them

We went to this restaurant 2 times. The first time for dinner, and the second time for late lunch. We ordered nasi dacha (butter rice with chicken gulai), nan set with chicken tandoori and Maggie Mie goreng. We love all the food we ordered. Service is fast and quite nice for Indian restaurant. It's quite cheap, we think. And it's halal.

been coming to this place few times. You still to que but not as long as nasi kandar beratur. I love their steam rice and their gravy. Lots of choices ranging from fish egg curry, squid curry, daging Ros and of course the fried chicken. The resaturant is spacious so you dont fight for your seat.

There are many wannabes on the island but Kassim Mustafa is a classic. I have been eating here since the 90s and the food is still consistently good and well-priced. For the less adventurous, try the chicken (mild or spicy), which my son declared the best curried chicken he has every had. For the adventurous, I personally recommend the goat tripe -- it is sublime! You cannot go wrong here. The sauce mixture over rice is what I think of when I anticipate a visit back to Penang. Go here and enjoy your meal!

Didn’t really know what we were ordering as we struggled with the menu and no English translation. After a bit of pointing we ended up with tandoori chicken, naan bread, some rice and some sauces. It was superb. The tandoori chicken was succulent, the sauces were packed with flavour and the naan bread was as good as I’ve tasted. Not fancy surroundings but great food, great value (22 RM incl. 2 mango lassis) and definitely worth a visit when in Georgetown.

I've been going on visa runs to Georgetown since 2006 or so, usually once or twice a year. I always go to Kassim Mustafa for the tandoori chicken. It's still great. Normally I don't seek out tandoori chicken but this is special.

Nasi dalca is a softer version of beryani. Here its nice with fried chicken. Always ask for 'kuah campur' meaning mix gravy on top of the rice. Be careful it can be quite addictive!

New Years Eve and we settled down for a very tasty we hoped meal. It was delicious we shared plates of Chicken Tikka, Aloo Gosht, Roti Chennai, Mutton Curry, Naan and fluffy saffron rice. We enjoyed each and every dish savouring the flavours dancing on our palates. Finished with a banana roti and a cooling lassi. Replete and happy we joined the locals to see the fireworks and hello 2019. One more great spot to eat in Georgetown.

We've been coming here regularly, for what I'd say is the best roti in Penang, and we've tried all the best reviewed spots! Check out the roti telur, really good ratios of egg to bread.

Restoran Kassim Mustafa's distinctive yellow and green exterior is easy to find and works as an excellent hoarding. We dropped by twice on our recent trip to Georgetown as we were so impressed by our first visit. The mango lassi here was one of the best we've ever had anywhere and the tandoori chicken was delicious and juicy - garlic naan was spot on too. Service is hit & miss but it is all about the food - well priced too.
