You should make your reservation well in advance and please do not miss to find a space in case you did not get a table on their outside padeo with windsheelds! The view is nice, food is excellent, very fresh fish and excellent wines. Friendly service, what else do you need?

Overall we were disappointed with the dining experience. A pleasant setting but the restaurant is clearly geared up for large parties of tourists. The two of us were seated at a central table but, after requesting a change, we were eventually moved to a table by the window. Our waitress was very friendly and there was not an overdue wait... The place is charming, specially if you arrive around 7:30 to see the sunset spectacle, food is good, chocolate foundant the best! Nice to eat here while in town.

An old ship has been used to build this restaurant and the result is very nice. The place is a must even though it is quite noisy with large groups. Fish is of course excellent and fresh, staff very pleasant but we had to wait quite a while before getting our food. There is also a bar on top.

When you want to visit this place you definitely need a reservation otherwise you probably don't get a table. The waiter was very attentive. The menu had all different kinds of food and something for everyone but obviously mainly fish. The tuna steak was very good and perfectly done, the fish in philo was a bit dry but good in... More

An interesting building , very helpful and friendly staff, good quality food and reasonably priced. We enjoyed our meal and would certainly have returned if we had been in the area longer.

Quirky restaurant styling, attentive staff, busy reservations should be considered at weekends. The oysters served here are excellent, Namibian oysters are some of the largest we have ever had and possible the best - sorry France. We had dinner here on 2 occasions during our stay in Swakopmund this year, both good but better when the restaurant is not packed.... More

Loved the place. We sat inside on the deck of the original tug boat deck. Small table as we booked last minute (actually 3 days before). Not fine dinning, but excellent fresh food and the best service. The snoek pate was divine and we loved the Cajun style monk fish.

We had dinner at the Tug in March and it was a wonderful experience. The setting is lovely and the food was delicious. It was busy, so do make reservations ahead of time. Our table overlooked the water and it was a treat to hear the ocean after spending quite a bit of time in the desert.

Description
The Tug Restaurant had first opened its doors during December 1993. Starting out as a small beachfront restaurant on the edge of the wild and mystical Atlantic Ocean, with splendid views onto the iconic Swakopmund jetty, The Tug's popularity has grown as time moved on. Dining areas inside and on the outside deck terrace have been extended considerably, while the restaurant has become a culinary destination for travelers from around the globe. The Tug restaurant offers authentically prepared cocktails, a selection of more than 140 of the finest South African wines, French champagne. Special delights from the wild Namibian ocean include kingklip, kabeljou, lobsters, angel fish and sole, John Dory, local oysters, fresh green Swakopmund asparagus. The richly diverse menu includes stuffed Patagonian squid, prawns, Norwegian salmon, Sashimi tuna. For the carnivore there are tasty cuts of beef and tender lamb, in addition to game delicacies such as Oryx carpaccio or grilled Oryx steak, Surf & Turf. There is a wide selection for the vegetarian and our delicious homemade Spanakopita is a favorite. Both owner partners George Hopking and Brett Southworth believe that no successful establishment should rely solely on its popularity. They engage in consistent attention to quality and freshness of their products, as well as continuous training and motivation of their staff, in order to provide the customer with decent service and an extensive menu and wine list.
