Tucked away around the corner from the Anglican church in the center of the city, Shpinat is what home cooked food is about! It's a bit of a secret location, as it's in a residential area and you have to go up a flight of...stairs in the building, but once you're inside, you honestly don't want to leave. The decor is very artsy/homely, and the menu is quite large: think about three or four options for starters, cheese, khachapuri, khinkali, etc. (If you don't know what you want, there's an English menu to help explain the choices.) And, while it's not on the menu, you can ask for the wonderful house wine (go with the sour red)! All in all, you're going to have a tough time not overeating!More

This place was recommended to us by local friends. I am a big fan of Georgian cuisine and in Moscow there are plenty of restaurants that offer just plain food without the character. So decided to give a try to Shpinat (translation Spinach). It is...on the second flour of the old style Soviet office building. Tables and chairs are simple so it reminds cafe. Walls are covered with posters of different singers and actors who are regulars in this place. The owners are usually around (this is family restaurant) and ready to give advice on food. We asked to have a traditional Georgian dinner and gave the choice of dishes to the manager - very pleasant and friendly lady. Traditional soup Kharcho was awesome - spicy as it should. Their Khachapuri (Georgian pizza) was soft with tasty cheese on top. We had also chicken in garlic sauce and Khinkali (juicy meat dumplings which you eat holding them in hand). My friend enjoyed meet on a pan. With your soup and Khinkali you should try Chacha - Georgian grape vodka - strong and aromatic. As for the soft drinks - Tarkhun - green tarragon based fizzy drink is very tasty. As I mentioned - service is great - you really feel like you visit your friends' house. And the prices are very reasonable for the center of Moscow - price to quality much better than in High Street Georgian restaurants. So if you are around Kremlin/Tverskaya Street this place is a must to visit to try authentic Georgian cuisine and feel the atmosphere of this country (Georgia) without going to Tbilisi.More

Genuine Georgian cuisine with spectacular Khinkali (sophisticated ravioli). If you are lucky as we were you might hear some excellent and spontaneous singing and other music making. This restaurant is very close to the P.I. Tschaikovsky Music Conservatory.
