Good place, a bit hidden at the market place. Narrow aisle to the door. We trusted the reviews from Tripadvisor and the place is worth it. Fast service, good food and English menu+staff. Tonkatsu is very good here. Absolutely recommended.

This restaurant is through a doorway and down a passage located in one of the busy shopping strips. We almost didn't find it! By the time we arrived (about 7.30) there were already lots of people waiting. We saw a few groups up that the staff were bringing out menus and taking orders before people sat down. We ended up... We went for my birthday dinner. It he place is small but atmospheric with a big square communal dining table where you can make friends among fellow diners...or not. several individual dining tables in the from and side rooms as well. wonderfully cooked food of superior ingredients!

This place is not just serving incredibly tasty food but creating a really amazing experience with the attention to detail, the way the food is laid out and all the trimmings, the incredibly friendly staff and the overall setting. Great value for a very tasty, filling meal at $30 with beers and I would really recommend the katsu pork with... More

It is hard to find unless you know Japanese as it only has small sign in Japanese. Once you find this place, you can experience great taste. I would recommend hire-katsu. Howevet the price is little not high around 2000¥ 일본어로 되어 있는 작은 간판만 있기에 찾기 좀 어려울 수 있지만 꼭 가봐야 하는 곳입니다. 2000엔 대로 가격이 조 있는... More

Japan has an abundance of restaurants that specialise in doing one thing, but doing it very well. Katsukura does things fried in breadcrumbs - mainly pork cutlets, but there are a few other options. The place is nestled next to the Lipton Cafe in the shopping mall, and has a quiet and calm ambience. Service is rapid and attentive. You... More

This place specialises in deep fried pork (tonkatsu), and has a variety of 3 different types of pork cutlets, served in a choice of 3 sizes. You get rice, miso, and salad, and get to mix your own dressing by grinding sesame seeds they give you and mixing in the sauce. The fact they give you free refills for the... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
