Because our daughter had been living in rural Gunma for 9 months, longing for her favorites = Salade Lyonnais, Duck Confit, Foie Gras and Clafouti. The Foie was sold out but everything else was on the menu. She was thrilled. This is not a fine dining experience, just a solid, well executed and value priced Lyonnais Bistro. The owner apparently... More

Friendly, relaxed, well cooked and authentic country-style cooking. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. I rarely book restaurants but our local family advised its usually a good idea here as they're often booked out. They were also flexible enough to cater to two vegetarians in our group with advance warning.

We went based on the good reviews below, but were rather disappointed. Whilst the restarting may be trying to go for the authentic French bistro ambiance, it felt tired and dated, and could do with a refresh. The place was filled with more greasy smoke than a yakiniku restaurant, and the portions were very small - served on a side... More

We visited Le Bouchon twice during their listed hours and both times they were not open. First time they had a note "on vacation returning so we came back at the date specified and still nothing. We've wasted taxi fare and time. The owners should learn how to run a business.

What an amazing place! The food is simply perfect as are their wines. The staff speaks french and are very attentive and professional. The atmosphere is really relaxed. There are not so many places where one can dine for a long evening. We enjoyed a multiple course dinner with wines and what not! The most fun part of our evening... More

We had a wonderful dinner with our 3 kids at Le Bouchon! Le Bouchon serves real French food typical of the city of Lyon. It offers delicious specialities and home-made desserts are excellent. The wine list offers a wide selection both in red and white wines. The owner speaks French very well and is very nice! Don't forget to book... More

If you do not like, or are needing a a break from Japanese food, this is an excellent French traditional bistro.Warm welcoming staff and excellent food. The sort of small restaurant that is largely dying out in France itself.. NB.when we went they did not accept credit cards but I am not sure whether this was a temporary or permanent... More

Visited here almost every morning while in Kyoto. Everything was fresh and still warm when you get there in between 7-8am. If you don't want a sit down breakfast and would prefer something savoury to have on the move you can't go past here.

We had a fantastic dinner at this venue. Chief welcomed us very nicely and in a perfect French! Staff was also kind and useful. Food was really good and affordable. Special mentions for deserts which were perfectly cooked and very tasty. I strongly recommend this place if you seek for French food in Kyoto.

I was in Kyoto in October 2016, and stayed a hotel right next door to Le Bouchon. The staff at the hotel recommended the bakery to us when we checked in, so we went the next morning. The bakery was fabulous. There was a line of people waiting to get seated, but it moved quickly. We browsed the bakery items... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
