Excellent food and great value for money! Went for the dinner course and every of the 7 dishes was delicious. Service and atmosphere was top notch, too.

The waiter didn't understand much English and got the order wrong and even forgot one main dish. The steak was good but the food was not hot when served. I would say average, but won't be back again.

This cafe is located next to the Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Sanjo. The staff limit the customers (and make you wait) even though tables are spare...i stopped for sencha and a cake. overpriced. But focus on the trendy.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. There are menus available in Japanese and English. The menu offers healthy, tasty cuisine. The food quality was very good. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

Must try the iced matcha latte, matcha soda and hot pot variety with the taro rice. Only regrettable dish was the miso aubergine - was not fried :(

a great choice in the area but must be prepared for a good 10 min wait. Lunch specials are usually good value and the place with garden in the back is just an oasis on Sanjo Dori

We enjoyed a delicious dinner. Reservations are advised if you can manage it. Do not be put off by the name or the outward appearance, I had thought it only served drinks and desserts so was surprised to be going there for dinner. My Midori cocktail, made with sake, was lovely. The set meal was good value and included some... More

We stayed in a hotel nearby and decided to try out the Iyemon Salon for breakfast. The restaurant is located close to the intersection of Sanjo and Karasuma, just about half a block west of Karasuma on Sanjo. The place was slated to open at 8 AM so we casually arrived there without a reservation at around 8:15 AM. There... More

We recently had dinner at this restaurant. The restaurant's staff were attentive and kind, and despite language difficulties, provided a very good service. The food came quick and was very delicious. It is a nice combination between Japanese style and western influences. Prices were reasonable. We ordered a few dishes and a dessert. All were very good. 2 dishes that... More

This place is really popular - we managed to get a seat after a short wait on our first visit but missed out on the second because people were queuing out the door. We had retuned following two successful dinners on a trip to Kyoto last year. The food is very tasty, servings are generous and the price is reasonable.... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
