There was a line for breakfast. But then Starbucks has a line, too. The building from outside looks like any other Kyoto old shops, but the interior is old western style. After 15 minutes or so waiting, we were seated in the parlor room, separate from the main room. We ordered the breakfast set menu and it was good. The... More

This had been my favorite coffee shop for many years in Kyoto, because, as a German used to coffee and cake from Austria, I was always happy that they got the coffee and cake just like what was used to and just how I like to enjoy it. In fact, their cake and coffee training is directly from German bakers... More

We read the reviews and decided to visit the place for breakfast. After stepping through the grey industrial exterior, we found the interior to be very regal. The breakfast sets were presented beautifully, but it may not be satisfying to some (as it was mostly vegetables). The coffee and tea were slightly bitter too, perhaps having been steeped longer than... More

The decor is quite chic and retro. Breakfast was fine, but on the more expensive side. The coffee was enjoyable as well!

Following recommendations here I decided to go for breakfast thinking a coffee + croissant worth a try. Staff were very nice. Place is mid-upper class. The black coffee (pearl) 590 yen - with tiny jug of cream on side was (for me) Undrinkable (if you are used to smooth Aust blended coffee) - this was so so bitter and triple... More

If you always take a coffee in a coffee shop chain, but want to change the mood sometimes, Inoda Coffee Honten is a nice place. It is an old house in downtown Kyoto, but inside is a modern, spacious coffee shop. Sandwiches and other light meals are also available.

Went there for an afternoon coffee while staying in the area. The cafe has table service so we had to wait a bit until we were seated. As far as I remember there are smoking and non-smoking areas in Inoda. The cafe has a decent choice of coffees and scrumptious cakes and desserts. We really enjoyed chilling out there in... More

Everything was very good. The eggs were absolutely amazing. I had the Arabic Pearl coffee and it was delightful. The service was below average for Japan which is what drops this place to four stars for me.

Inoda Coffee has been the most famous coffee shop in Kyoto for a long time. I went there to take breakfast. I enjoyed Morning set including rich scrambled eggs and fresh salad.

My go-to for breakfast when I visit Kyoto; you feel like you have stepped back into the 1960s, in a good way. The main room is spacious with a garden view, and the staff are super-attentive. Good coffee (not amazing), dainty sandwiches with a good dollop of potato salad, excellent pastries and cakes.

Thank Kirsty M
