Absolutely one of the culinary highlights of my life. I had the pork cutlet (for around ¥1.300) and it was amazing. Melts away in your mouth. My girlfriend had the slightly more expensive ¥2.000 choice which was even better. You can in fact taste a real difference but I must say I was already more than pleased with my dish.... More

Love the tonkatsu, it is soooo tender and the taste is so delicious. The side dishes are refillable - coleslaw, rice, soup.

To get to this restaurant in Kyoto station, you need to go up to level 11 from Isetan, then walk for another 5-10 minutes before reaching it (it is at the end of the round loop). Do not confuse this with another tonkatsu place which is also at the same level (forgot the name). I would recommend the tenderloin tonkatsu.... More

Food is ok, I had better one in Nara with much much better service and smiles. Location is hard to find if you are first time in the train building.

As with previous reviews. Lovely Katsu, but the staff weren't very forthcoming with the extra cabbage, rice or miso soup. Great food in general though. To find the restaurant turn left at the top of the 11f escalators.

The tonkatsu was very very good here, and slightly different than even what I'd gotten elsewhere in Japan. They give you a bowl of seasame seeds to grind up with your choice of sauce (spicy or sweet). A nice experience.

Great pork and I liked the unlimited cabbage, miso and rice in the price. Also good that they gave instructions on what sauce to use on what so if in the station I would say go but.... ...I think you could get better authentic atmosphere in anyone of the side street restaurants who serve similar dishes - probably not the... This was my first meal in Japan and it is still one of the best ! The katsu and the tempura were amazing. It's a bit tricky to find, so head up the stairs to level 11. It will be worth it !!

Thank MoniqueCB

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
