Discounted lunch menu for about 1000 yen which is a great value. Food was good. Wish there was my meat in my curry but the huge naan made up for that. It was a great lunch overall.

^ ahem, clearly the swiss know nothing about good indian food, this was BY FAR the best I have ever had (coming from Australia literally one on every corner) the owners/staff were so welcoming and appreciative of our business, 3 nights in a row after a very very hungry week and a half in Tokyo, the naan is OUT OF... Given the location, we had suspected that the price/quality ratio would not be the best in Japan. However, it is really not good. The garlic on the naan bread was really not good, the curries very oily and the service below average (for example no flexibility in the menu, waiter not very friendly), although we were the only customers in... We had a really good Indian meal here. Great curries, naan and lassi. Definitely worth it! Don't miss it if you love Indian food.

I enjoyed this place. It's not exactly cheap, but then, good Indian food never is - especially when you're in a place far from India. The chicken tikka masala was very tasty, but a bit oily. The naan was amazing - some of the best naan I've eaten anywhere. The people running this place are very sweet and humble, which... More

We saw this restaurant while we walk at the street. Simply entered and they welcome us kindly. Had an English Manu and pics next to the dishes. But! Forget about that, the food was Amazing! We got a big plate (easy can satisfy a couple) with great Naan. Best Indian food I've ever eat!

This was our worst meal in Japan. Order was wrong. They then forgot the rice. It came after we had finished our meal. Was expensive for what we had.

At the basement near shijo avenue, this Indian restaurant was a good find for us. Samosa priced at 330 yen for a single piece looked expensive but tasted so good. We also ordered alu tikki, again delicious. Alu gobhi was good, only thing was potato and cauliflower was deep fried so avoid if you don't want to have heavy. Garlic... More

Staying in Gion

Neighbourhood Profile
Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.
