The staff was friendly. The setting is traditional and incense was used in the restaurant. It is a decent place for an Indian vegetarian option.

Food was excellent served by very friendly staff with a great sense of humour. Service was extremely fast with nothing too much trouble. Restaurant had a warm, local and friendly atmosphere. Excellent value for money too. We loved it!

After reading all comments, I decided with my girlfriend to visit this indian and decide by myself if the currys really all taste the same and even if I have to agree that the two currys were quite similar, they both tasted incredibly good. If you don't wanna spend too much money this place is also perfect. They offer you... More

We visited for dinner, low key joint with tv screen playing loud hip hop. No problem with the music - it was indeed fun. Food is very greasy, we agreed that all curries tasted the same. We do not normally mind portions but frankly these were really poor: 4 small shrimps and 4 small pieces of chicken in each curry.... More

I read many comments here that said that the food is not ”real Indian”, but i'm not sure if those people ever been to India. This restaurant serves Indian food as it is served in India, and not as it served in the UK or the US. For me it was a wonderful experience, they sent me back to the... More

My wife and kids really appreciated this find. We were looking for a place that would accommodate a vegetarian diet while taking a break from sushi. We've been traveling for 2 weeks in Asia and this restaurant ranks at the very top. If you love Indian food and are in the mood for non-Japanese cuisine in Kyoto, this is your... More

Curries all taste the same. Chicken curry had only three small pieces and paneer dish had only four very small pieces. It was all gravy only. We ordered mutton curry and overheard the manager telling the cook to put only two pieces in it. Mango lassi was more like watery mango drink with lot of ice and not lassi. Serving... More

We tired of train station food and decided to venture out. Our taxi driver left us in the wrong place. A local helped us find the restaurant along with my mobile. We were the first to arrive just before 7PM. The restaurant begin to fill with locals and westerns. We had butter chicken and chicken saag with naan. Both dishes... More

Following a disappointing first meal in Tokyo we were very selective on our first night in Kyoto. A need for something tasty and filling and good tripadvisor reviews led us to Ajanta. The place is small, simple furniture but colorful decor as you would expect in an Indian restaurant. We had 3 children wth us who do not take much... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
