This has an old school fit out. Simple vibe where things slow down here. We had 4 people and were seated upon arrival. The toast was thick and coffee was a satisfactory blend. Only warning is people do smoke indoors.

Takagi Coffee’s famous triangular "purin" (flan/creme caramel) is the epitome of dandy nonchalance of George Carlin. Much sturdier than the regular soft purin, Takagi’s is more like a flan, it stands on its on – an island of manly confidence – silently mocking the softies...More

Old-school Japanese breakfast joint. Most regulars smoke cigarettes and sip on coffee as they read the morning paper inside this modest cafe whose interior still sports an older decor. It's very authentic. I actually hesitated to give this 4 stars; still, it's an experience, the...More

Great little cafe in some of the back streets of Kyoto. Coffee was some of the best we have had in Japan. Food was ok but definitely worth going for a coffee stop with a warm, quaint feel.

Takagi Coffee is an old fashioned coffee shop in the center of Kyoto, near the financial district of Shijo Karasuma. Although it is an old shop, it is very comfortable inside, which recalls the good past times of Showa 40s. Their coffee is excellent. If...More

Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub,
Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining,
and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with
tourists and local business travelers, making it a
competitive location for ever-new commercial
structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and
trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains.
