Probably one of my favorite Starbucks in the world. This one was across the street from the Hotel Monterey Kyoto. We came here for coffee and pastries every morning during our trip. It was always clean, bright, quiet, and I absolutely loved the music selection which really created a lovely, relaxing atmosphere. It had wonderful views of a beautiful, centuries... More

I'm not in the habit of reviewing chains, simply put, everyone knows what they'll be getting, so my opinion doesn't really serve a purpose. But in this case, an exception. The coffee here is as the coffee is, but my, what a view. Because, behind the floor to ceiling windows is a beautiful courtyard housing a beautiful temple. Grab a... More

We went here because it said it had a view of a temple and we are so glad we did. The Starbucks had floor to ceiling windows so you could see the temple, and even had comfortable chairs facing it. Absolutely incredible and well worth a stop.

Yes, going to Starbucks may feel like a bit of a cop out when you're visiting Japan, but some mornings you just want a giant coffee and a doughnut, and the beautiful view of the temple out of the rear glass wall makes this a very worthwhile place to visit!

We wandered in here for coffee without even knowing that when we decided to slip out the back to enjoy it we would stumble into one of the more beautiful temples we saw on our trip! There is a large window overlooking the temple grounds with chairs set up in front of it where you can enjoy your coffee in... More

Popped in for a sandwich to take with us for later, and the staff were so very polite and kind. Gave us extra samples of coffee to try. Great location to sit and enjoy a snack if you are not rushing about sightseeing as we were.

From this Starbucks you can take a nice view of Rokkakudo, a famous temple, through the window. There are several Starbucks in this area, but I recommend this shop.

Sitting in there, you could have a cup of coffee while you observing "六角堂". Starbucks have a stable meal & coffee serving. Price is all the same with other Starbucks in Japan, so you don't have to pay extra money for a special and beautiful view. It is a " must go " spot in Kyoto. Bus stop and subway... More

This place seems to be best for it in Kyoto such as all others Starbucks, I presume. Why we are going back is the coffee, sitting outside where are few tables and baking on sun. They have very tasty sandwiches too. Staff is very friendly.

I went in this Starbucks because it is right across the street from my hotel, Hotel Monterey. I was pleasantly surprised to find the shrine right outside the Starbucks (opposite the street entrance). You can sit in comfortable chairs and look out at the shrine or walk about the shrine grounds. Very cool.

Thank JC2

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
