Everything is amazing with one exception - line up! Lots of locals eat here. Color of the plate gives you price, you pay based on plates you collected.

Went there on the recommendation from a friend who described it as a "must try" - it was a good enough meal, but not something I'd go out of my way to visit again. Not all that special, this place is so informal that it...More

The waitresses were told that we were three separate couples sitting at the counter, and they still wouldn't give us a third tablet. We repeated several times that we were coupled off but they wouldn't split the bill three ways which resulted in lots of...More

This is a perfect example of when you shouldn't trust reviews. At Chojiro Sushi they offer an overall average meal, or even below that. If you just want to go there for their fatty tuna, then do it - it's great. But everything else we...More

Excellent, fresh fish at very reasonable prices. Good sake and quick, friendly service. I loved the order screens - they made it easy to keep ordering and get a real sense of the selection, and they were organized by language.

We came this place for first time and waited for almost 30 minutes and could not wait for longer so we gave up. Another evening we came around 6.30pm and waited for about 25 minutes and got the seats. The food was not excellent as...More

Read other Trip Advisor reviews about the limited seating at this restaurant so we went about 20 minutes before it opened. Sushi was great and less expensive than comparable sushi restaurants in Honolulu, would go back there again when I go back to Kyoto.

Though small by comparison, Pontocho is one of Kyoto's
most spirited and memorable neighborhoods. A narrow
street straddling the Kamogawa River, it is Kyoto's
busiest nightlife spot. When darkness falls,
Pontocho's many signs and lanterns bolt to life,
making the area glow with invitations to passers-by to
come inside and pull up a chair. Its restaurants and
bars sprawl onto the riverbank, providing a friendly

The restaurant is small, so you would occupy the whole dining area...maybe not the place for such a group

I'm sure you could visit their website before hand if you wanted to make a reservation. This restaurant wasn't busy when we visited and was a nicer "conveyor belt" type sushi place. You will probably be okay without a... More

“Seasonal” foodstuffs created by Japan’s four seasons.

CHOJIRO that values the delicate taste of seasonal foodstuffs and offers you sushi that the chef devotedly shapes one piece after another.

Our shop, which delicately balances a casual atmosphere only possible in a conveyor-belt sushi with our sushi chef’s commitment to quality,
is filled with the excited voices of children and their parents.

The sushi chef stocks extraordinarily fresh fish and shellfish and displays his skills day after day.

We offer a wide selection of your favorite sushi, tuna skewers that grilled right in our shop, and piping hot tempura, with Japanese rice wine.

Please enjoy picking out the dishes you want to savor during your visit to CHOJIRO.
